... I wish I could use 2 flags! In case you're from Germany or Austria (as your name suggests), you almost already are... I can see quite a resemblance with your avatar and the Adlers on the state flags of both those countries | | | Mika I hate people who love me, and they hate me. (Bender Bending Rodriguez) |

Quote: Though I can understand the intent, I think adding this statement to the rules as you've proposed is much too subjective, in particular the use of the word "Obvious". What is 'obvious' to one may not be so to others. Also, the final sentence is much too over-encompassing IMO
Obvious errors ? Try that :
Nicale Kidman John Wayne Bruce Wilis
How many people will miss the two errors ? And I wrote correct documented data to derogate rules.
The last sentence is to avoid endless discussions about other parts of rules saying "reproduce exactly..." The program is already capable of dealing with the film credit examples you list above through use of the Credited As function. If I recall correctly, you don't use that feature, but that's exactly what it's for. As for mistakes in overviews, I don't think I know of any such examples in my collection. The last sentence is to avoid endless discussions about other parts of rules saying "reproduce exactly..." There is no need for endless discussions when the rules state "reproduce exactly". Reproduce exactly means just that EXACTLY - no room for interpretation, or discussion... You seem to be the only one missing this point, as you are the only one that keeps bringing this up... | | | Berak

You seem to be the only one missing this point, as you are the only one that keeps bringing this up... If the proposed modification had been accepted, then there would have been a risk of discussion about a part of the rules saying "correct the errors" and another part saying "reproduce exactly", so it was necessary to precise which rule supersedes the other. Once again, your hatred for me prevents you to think when you see one of my posts. Anyway, I noted that you avoided this time to thrash my "arrogance beyond belief", as you did when I dared to propose to share my images from movies with other users. And as I wrote "End of story" about this thread that I opened, I do not see what you wanted to do with this post except to attack me again. I wish you a very good day. If this isn't uncalled for I don't know what is! I disagree with your suggested change, and offered an explanation as to why I do so. But all you can see when you see my name is "He hates me, so his opinion is moot!"? First; I don't hate you - you evidently feel that everyone who disagrees with you does so, but that's just sad! Second; Why do you bring up something from a totally unrelated topic? Third; I did not trash your proposal to share images. I even applauded it in another thread you started, but you selectively choose to ignore any positive comments I make, don't you. I called you arrogant for persisting to use a french-language web-site when evidently most users of DVDProfiler don't know that language. Fourth; Please show me where in my last post I attacked you. I expressed my opinion, nothing more, nothing less! You are just like a little kid, Yves. When you don't get it your way, you run to mama and cry that the other kids are mean to you, and don't want to play your game. The sooner you realise that different people have different opinions, the better. Not everything is about you, Yves, and until you realise that you will come across as arrogant in my eyes. (That is a matter of opinion, and not a statement of fact for my part, in case you are confused). Long days and pleasant nights to you... | | | Berak

| Posted: | | | | IMHO the rules work reasonably well as they are. Credited as-functionality takes care of spelling mistakes of cast and crew, and the logic behind selecting "common names" is probably the best that we can do for the moment - even with the problem of people with same names with no birth-years known. There can't be many cases, where someone's common name in CLT is verifiably wrong(?), at least if we count out people who have only made a film or two and those who change their names during their career. As for typos in overviews, I like the rule of reproducing everything as exactly as possible, because... 1) I think this kind of curio is simply giving the exact information of the release. That this kind of "error reproducing" is not at all comparable to other mistakes on cover regarding aspect ratios, running times etc., is obvious to everyone. 2) Typical typos do not jeopardize the information value the overview is supposed to give of the movie (I haven't come up with such major errors that did) 3) Sometimes we would end up arguing, in not so clear-cut cases, what is an error in overview and what is not - resulting in meaningless ping-pong battles. This system is better, everyone can simply correct the error in their local database if they want. Thankfully the typos are not that common, that this would be a major burden to anyone. 4) Sometimes reproducing these errors in overviews could be the only information on different releases / print cycles, when everything else including UPC seems to be the same. I don't know any such cases, but it's a possibility. 5) All in all: it's not a big deal at all, and IMHO the pros outweigh the cons. Just my 2cents on credits and overview... Finally, it's only a good thing that members keep open mind and consider about possible improvements in rules. They surely can't be perfect either... | | | Mika I hate people who love me, and they hate me. (Bender Bending Rodriguez) | | | Last edited: by Draxen |
