| | Posted: | | | | Having the DVD is an excellent idea! I have a couple of Disney titles that do (Bolt, Pinocchio) but would love it if more studios did the same.
For me it's for two reasons:
A. If my BD player develops a fault and I can't replace it I would still be able to watch the film.
B. My sister (who lives with me) doesn't own a BD player and would benefit from the DVD copy. |

| | Posted: | | | | I have absolutely no use for Digital Copies. Watching a movie on a 17" laptop is a waiste of time when I can watch it on a 46" Full HD TV.
I don't really care for the DVD in the package also, because I want to watch it in the best quality.
Also they may claim it's included for free, and while I know you won't pay for the full DVD cost, I'm sure you will pay for the manufacturing costs of the DVD (and even the Digital Copy disc). Granted, it will only be a few $/€, but after 10 purchases, you will have paid for an extra BD.

I purposely bought Monsters vs Aliens at Target for the sole reason that it was a combo pack exclusive. I don't think I'd have any use for Universal's combo packs on catalogue titles. I am getting extra blu players this yearfor the bedroom and living room so I won't be needing it on catalogue titles. I like the DVD Copy, mainly cause I like that I can still watch it in my bedroom or on my laptop where I don't have a blu-ray player. Will not having the DVD stop me from buying the blu-ray copy though? no but it will help.
I upgraded a few dvd's (Spaceballs, Fifth Element) I got rid of the dvd copies. Spaceballs actually came with a dvd copy (more on that later) so it was super easy to get rid of the single dvd i had. Fifth Element I have minor regrets about getting rid of the DVD because I can no longer watch it in my bedroom (chances that I actually would do so are slim but it's not an option) I don't like the idea of having the same movie on my shelf twice taking up valuable real estate.
As far as the Spaceballs, the dvd copy that came with it is the Original flipper release (widescreen/fullscreen) not the Newer anamorphic widescreen special edition release. I'm convinced it was included because they have all this useless dvd stock of the non-anamorphic release dvd so they just use a 2-disc blu-ray case instead of a single disc (probably only a couple more pennies to their cost) and now they just cleared out a lot of old inventory. Plus the consumers get an added value to their purchase (making it easier to justify the purchase). It's win\win.

The Blu player I just bought will upconvert older titles' picture quality. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |

-Agrare They are still selling those old discs at Wal-Mart and Meijer's around here, like they keep getting new shipments of them. Many are repackaging with sequels or just other movies without any real ties, cheap sets all have the old dvds. I can recall Carrie and Alien 1,2,3 (together) 3-packs with old discs. Predator (the oldest non-DTS even) Predator 2 and many other single oldies have been seen within the last couple weeks as well, sporting new or newer slipcovers  |
