What's the model?
I need to get one, and it would be the perfect Christmas gift from my wife. Cannon Pixma MP190- Printer - Scanner - Copier Got it at Walmart on sale for $40... think the regular price at the time (3 or 4 months ago) was $50. | | | Pete |

I agree for a lot of forum users... Less than 200 in front of how many thousands profiler users ? Surfeur: A number of us would like to see a bit more in regards to covers. You have very little good to say about the program, i am left wondering why you even use it. Since there is nothing about it that pleases you. Go off and develop your own, PLEASE, then it will no doubt be PERFECT for you. You are so negative. You also seem to really believe that you speak for, I don't know how many, 10, ROFL. There are two very simple solutions to the problem:
1) Make your local database exactly what you want. Ken has given us all the tools we could ever want from entry, look-up, presentation right down to output, in minute detail. At least 1/4 of my database is set up the way I want, so I can look-up and view it whatever way I want to match my collection albeit original release or re-release with the same UPC.
2) Write your own d_ _n program and leave this one alone. There has to be a consistent starting point for the online that we can count on. OK it's not perfect, but it far outweighs the inconsistencies and limitations of other programs. Ken keeps improving it, giving us new tools to make it more flexible.
Hobbies are supposed to be fun, not a vehicle to see how high up the tree you can make it wet. If you don't get that one, I'm sorry, but some will. OK, I know I could just not read the forums, but the truth is, most of the time, I sit here with a grin on my face reading and shaking my head. I have actually gotten some very good tips from the forums, before they turn ugly. One of the most interesting things is how quickly the original topic goes south and people start using it to slam someone else. A lot of times I have to go back to page 1 just to find out what the original topic really was.
Sorry, but I just can't help chiming in once in a while. Outstanding | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

It allows me to manage my movies collection exactly as I wish, and its customizing features even allowed me to add data that Ken has not implemented (box office, for example...). The only thing that I really miss is a tick box to manage correctly asian and stage names. So, about dvdprofiler, just There is another aspect, which has no real importance for me, and which concerns the online. I really think that the online may help people to start their profiles as they want for their local. But the option taken by rules to choose always the oddest solution instead of using common sense makes this online database far less interesting for most users that it could be. If we look at what happened in the past years, the program has always evolved in the good direction, though the online went worse and worse. For me, if I had to grade the program and the online: In 2005, program =13/20, and online data with guidelines =15/20. At that time, I could use quite everything in the online profiles without problem, but many program features were missing. Today, at the end of 2009, program=18/20, and online data with rules = 6/20. All my profiles are locked for all fields and it takes less time to build a new profile from scratch than to correct a downloaded one. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

You make comments about our Online while touting the late and not so great DVDSpot. Yes, I was a user and I considered it to be worthless...so I left and didn't return to it. Those who used Spot and believe it to be so good, I don't see what they saw, and further if it were soooo good, it would still be around, wouldn't it. If Profiler is soooo awful in your view... I just don't understand why you would use something that you believe "serves no purpose". Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Buuly for you, surfeur and that is your opinion and you are only qualified to speak for your self. Do NOT even pretend to speak for others. Using your rather bizarre 20 point grading system. Online of Old 1/20 Guidelines 0/20 Online Today 15/20 Rules 15/20 And that sir is MY opinion. Our database today is so far beyond 2005 in accuracy that the old Online looks like something built on 3x5 cards. But it still has a long way to go. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! Skip I can tell you what I saw. An excellent online facility where you could have different covers, various titles witht he same UPC, a great cast/crew linking system and a far better submission basis where parts could be accepted/declined and the editor would actually leave a note relevant. Also, editors were available for contact and were not faceless (I have a feeling it's just Gerri and Ken but they don't want to admit that when a userbase of 500,000 has maybe 100 actual regular forum posters). The reason it isn't around is because CNET purchased the database and tried to mix it in with their FilmSpot program failing miserably. CNET screwed everyone over. Also, again, you have not read somebody's entire message. Alien Redrum said this was a fantastic program, OFFLINE. The online does suck. At the end of the day, DVDSpot's online was far superior, but in Profiler, the offline is phenomenal and you wpn't ever 'lose' everything. Profiler is far behind every other catalogueing site out there when it comes to online capabilities but for me, offline is now very important after all the work lost in previous experiences. |

| Posted: | | | | Oh, and just to add, I have noticed the cast linking getting far better here over time but if a little bit more attention was paid to some sections of the online, Profiler would be 100% unbeatable. |

| Posted: | | | | As to the Online, Sam. that is your opinion and only your opinion. As I said, in my opinion DVDSpot was not just awful, but God awful. It's overall caliber far outweighed its few positives in my view. Relative to our Online, it has a long way to go because for the first 4 years it was mired in disaster brought on by Guidelines that were so incredibly weak that users were changing Profiles on a weekly baasis not based on anything other than they wanted to see their Overview or they wanted the Cast set up THEIR way, regardless of what ANY sort of data said and we didn't even have a linking system of any kind, Ken created one in 2003 and then promptly broke it and it 2 or 3 years before a new one was created. I won't call Profiler perfect, it never will be, no program is ever perfect, but compared to Spot it is very close to perfect, and as I said I used Spot for several years myself and was quite happy to see it die. Skip Let's weigh up what Spot had going for it more than profiler (online): - Correct cast linking that could be merged, updated, split, AKA's added by editors with a click of the button. - Allowed all covers that shared the same UPC easily. - Allowed budget DVD's of different titles with the same UPC. - Part contribution acceptance/declination. - Staff that cared and replied and took part in the forum. This amounts to a whole lot of great stuff. What has Profiler got going for it online above Spot: - Fantastic user-made reports/layouts. Again, offline, Profiler is an amazing thing to use. The program is phenomenal but the online is ass. If DVD-Spot online was like Herpes to you, Profiler Online is like AIDS for me. | | | Last edited: by samuelrichardscott |
