but I did remember there was quite a delay,, and even January 1998 till sept 1999 is quite a spell ..

But regardless of all this .. I think the time to revisit the theatre is about right for a film such as Avatar.., as they say there are milestones in theatrical runs and this may be one of them.

As I said, the movie ended its run in October of 1999 and DVDs was just coming into the market. So the delay wasn't that big especially in a time when the turnaround from theatrical release to home video was much longer (whereas now it's around 3-4 months outside of Christmas movies). I expect Avatar will be a tad longer maybe coming out in May or June.

Anyway, I might see it. I might not. I honestly do not care.

[pet peeve] One thing I do know, IF I got see it, I will wait a couple weeks for the crowds to die down. Whenever I go to a crowded theater,  I know I'll get the people who just have to open their boxes of candy after the trailers so all you hear are the cellophane wrappers and them chomping 'em down piece by piece. Drives me nuts. [/pet peeve]

I doubt that I'll see it in the theater, I've become to accustomed to watching movies sprawled out on the floor, propped up against the sofa or laying in bed.

Last movie seen in a theater was in 1998, Saving Private Ryan, discount day for retires. Some of my retired friends from work talked me into going. After about an hour into the movie, I got tired of sitting and watched the rest of the movie standing in the back of the theater.

Last one before that was 1974, in Reston, Virginia, The Longest Yard. I was working for Honeywell, Federal Systems Division. I was there to give a paper on real-time operating systems to  the WWMCCS, DOD. Our plane got in early, to early for dinner, so the movie.

I too was very skeptical, I thought the movie was going to be far too "politcally green", a giant 3D version of The Fern Gully movie, but I was happily proven wrong.

Sure the story is not very original, but Cameron hit another home run here.  The technology employed here is brilliant, the 3D was good(I am not a huge 3D fan to be honest) and I think Cameron does an incredible job of connecting the audience with the characters in the movie as well as their plight.

I heard the entire movie summarized in three words and it's kinda freaky how dead-on it is provided you understand the reference.  On the off chance this somehow ruins it for anybody, I'll do the spoiler thing.
