I would agree even though there is no clear cut evidence and we only have some clues. And I guess that Gerri would agree as well and that's why she was suggesting 1/2/3 for that particular case only. Every case is different and there is no default parsing. Brilliant Rho, when you can't document GUESS based on your cutural norm. Except that she is not from YOUR culture. I'll report back when I get an answer. |

Skip Yes, in short, I asked if she used Wright Penn as her full surname or Wright as her middle name and Penn as her surname so that the biographical section of the essay is correct. On a side note, she can change her name to Robin Wright samuelrichardscott any day she likes. She just has to call me. | | | Last edited: by samuelrichardscott |

I think this emailing actors, actresses, directors and so on could be the gold standard in the sheer anally retentive lunacy that is the DVD Profiler rules. Are you going to write to her in another 6 months saying your writing another piece and just to make sure her name is the same. Totally and utterly pointlessly crazy. What surprises me even more is Sam you started this thread | | | Last edited: by ShinyDiscGuy |

All this demonstrates, IMHO, is that the way we deal with parsing just doesn't work at all. Tim: Frankly this is a discussion which I don.t understand. My argument is data-based, and the other argument seems to revolve (to me anyway) around turning the Program into NameProfiler for some strange reason. It seems to be of utmost importance that we get the "correct" name including parsing, which is fine with me when it can documented, but just to do the things we are doingand Rho's constant input is vastly counter-productive, we will never be able to get a linking system that functions, since nobody simply wants to try and generate something that will work. it is always based on "well we don't do it that way here" and that is not relevant. As I have said, anyone familiar with naming practices would agree that documenting 1//23 from a 1/2/3 default is going to be far easier to do most of the time than trying to document a 1/2/3 from 1//23. And the default has to apply across the board not just based on this sounds like a middle name and this doesn't, that kind of logic is is just crap. I frankly could care less how somebody's name is parsed, it's not important, what is important is dealing with the data in a consistent manner so that we can get to another step closer to a functional link system, and a 1/2/3 start point is the better start point. James/Earl/Jones>>>James//Earl Jones for example...right, now yes I am sure we could easily find interviews using Mr. Jones, to document 1/2/3 but there are lesser known actors for whom such a default would be WRONG and difficult to verify otherwise. I do have a question for some users to check for me since nine brought it up. We may have a version/locality problem with the film credits. In MY copy of Beowulf 097361323145, my data (if it's not screwed up) shows a credit of Robin Wright Penn NOT Robin Wright-Penn and I can't check it, since it is in storage. Would someone be so kind as to check it for me, I suspect that my data is correct because I also show a listing for Sharisse Baker-Bernard, but i can't be sure. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! Skip She's from my culture. I say it's 1//2 3, or do we need to get a Texan for this to have any validity? We know Wright is a surname. Why are we even talking about this? |

| Posted: | | | | Your guessing, Ace. You have no support. Ican provide as much dat that indicates it's 1/2/3. if you can provide doc, then do so, don't guess at it. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Skip I have not guessed. TheMadMartian has decided on the given clues. I have only agreed. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Dr Pavlov: Quote: Frankly this is a discussion which I don.t understand. There's not much to understand, and it's not a "discussion" either. I'm just observing that it doesn't work. Except maybe in one or two unique cases, the community just can't ever seem to agree on what the parsing for any given name should be. And then there's the huge majority of users that doesn't even visit the forums. As it is, people generally just do as they see fit, meaning that virtually every name consisting of more than two parts (excluding suffixes, prefixes and stage names) has double, non-linking entries in the database. Unless something changes, I don't see that improving at all. There really isn't much to understand about that. This is extremely annoying, and it actually puts people off from contributing. How? Practical example from today: I have sound editor Karen Baker Landers parsed as K/B/L. I bought a new DVD and the profile I downloaded for it, had her listed as K//B L. I wanted to contribute some much-needed crew corrections to this profile, but I can only get those through without getting no-votes on the "un-documented" change to K/B/L. So I'm now forced to change my K/B/L entry to K//B L for contributing purposes, and then change it back so not to cause the same problem for my other profiles with her in it. Again: that's extremely annoying, and once there are five entries like this in a single profile, I assure you that it quickly becomes very attractive to just not bother with the contribution anymore. And this is not rare - I run into this about every other day. There's a limit to the ordeal people will go through to submit some cast/crew additions to a profile - there is for me, at least. I really couldn't care less whether it's K/B/L or K//B L - I'm happy to go either way, as long as everybody does the same, and I don't have to go through this ordeal every time. Surely I shouldn't have to go contacting people's agents every time I encounter a name consisting of more than two parts? | | | Last edited: by T!M |

She's from my culture. I say it's 1//2 3, or do we need to get a Texan for this to have any validity? We know Wright is a surname. Why are we even talking about this? Funny you should ask that, not that it has any bearing on the issue at hand, but I am a Texan. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Quoting Dr Pavlov: Quote: That's a GUESS, martian, not based on anysort of documentation. Without documentation supporting it...1/2/3. I have NEVER seen her name listed as Robin Wright-Penn, also Gayle has been removed. IF documentation can be found to support 1//23 I'll buy it but without documentation and just a GUESS....NO WAY. She is also not an actress from UK, she was born in Dallas, Tx.
Skip I never claimed otherwise but her Beowulf credit is enough documentation for me. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
