Parent profile Child profile both the same profile. I can just imagine, that this is done, to give the users the possibility to remove the child and still have the full information. |

I don't have the sets, but I believe they would be a Boxset. BUT (BIG BUT) My guess is that the the Individual UPCs use the same Discs. So, while you might not be able to Contribute the UPCs as children, y Disc ID you should. The Parent Profile since this is a FILM Boxset, should be basically EMPTY, with all data to the Children.

Skip I agree, but I think Lord of the Rings - Gift sets are not box sets. That are perhaps sets with bonus feature films, but no box sets. Btw, never said doing like this is correct in my above post, just wanted to give a ("maybe") explanation what could be reason of doing this. | | | Last edited: by VirusPil |

| Posted: | | | | The sets contains the normal SE release, UPC and all, and another, UPC-less disc package with a bonus doc of some sort. |

| Posted: | | | | So this is not a box set since it is only one film and only one version (the extended version) And the extra feature about the gollum statue is a bonus film.
So would this just be a Parent profile of the film (which is the gift set) and a child profile of the Gollum Statue DVD (bonus Film) |

| Posted: | | | | I agree but I am being told this is a box set or it is common practice to add a second profile that matches the parent
So Parent (gift set) Child of film Child Gollum DVD (Bonus Film)
is wrong and it should only be
Parent (Gift set) Child Gollum DVD (bonus Film) |

| Posted: | | | | The difference between a box set and a main film with bonus feature is ill-defined in the rules, but I would say have distinct packages inside the larger set makes this a box set. |

The Box (Parent with no movie information.) LotR:TT (Child) Gollum DVD (Child) |

The Box (Parent with no movie information.) LotR:TT (Child) Gollum DVD (Child) Agreed. The parent should be mostly empty, save the text from the case and descriptions of the pack-ins under "other features." |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Darknite: Quote: but this is not a box set Why not? Taken from the rules: The term "Box Set" is used to define any release that includes more than one film. The main examples are: * Sets where each film is packaged individually, and held together in a package of some kind. * Sets where each film is on a separate disc, but not individually packaged. This includes gatefold Digipaks and 2-Disc sets in normal DVD cases. * Sets containing 2 films, one on each side of Dual-Sided DVD. |

| Posted: | | | | Here is the last discussion over the Lord of the Rings Gift Sets. I believe this was also brought up on the old Intervocative forums but, don't know if we can still pull up old posts on it. | | | Are you local? | Posted: | | | | From the old thread also, this is how I remember how we decided to handle these gift sets on the old site. Quoting TheMadMartian: Quote: We started adding cast and crew data for cardboard boxes when distributors started selling these gift sets.
The gift set contains the retail version of the DVD as well as a bunch of extras. Some people purchased the gift set, others purchased just the retail version. Many of the people wanted to have a single profile that covered the entire gift set. They did not want one profile for the box, with all the extras listed, and a second profile for the film.
The rules define a box set as any release that includes more than one film. They say nothing about separate UPCs. Because the rules don't require a child profile in this case, we can not force those people who don't want one to use one.
The only solution is to have a complete profile, for those that want it, and let the rest of us strip the data out locally. I say 'us' because that is what I did. | | | Are you local? This is a local shop the strangers you would bring would not understand us, our customs, our local ways. |
