Billy back by popular demand.

Current Billy (80x28x202cm):

Without extra shelves the standard Billy is high and deep enough for 10 rows (4 back rows raised). In the official DVD Profiler measuring unit ("Keep Case") this gives 10 x 52 = 520 DVDs.

Current Bennos (19x19x212cm):

A Benno is much more efficient for B-rDs (10 x 12 = 120; +50%) than for DVDs (8 x 10 = 80). Weird, there's already room for future purchases.

Many DVD cases have been disposed of. The DVDs moved into ring binders, stored in Billy:

One ring binder holds 40 DVDs (disc and cover), this way you can store 9 x 40 = 360 DVDs in one Billy shelf.

I use Billys as well. I have usually added to separately purchased shelf layers to avoid the vertical space going to waste, but that only adds two rows. Seeing the double layers I might have to reconsider.

But for some reason my memory (not at home now) tells me that the shelves I have are not deep enough for double-rows or at least they would stick out? I'll have to take a close look and maybe I can still postpone the puchase of additional Billys...

You are correct, a double row of standard keepcases in a Billy sticks out about 5 mm

Thanks!

Hmmmm, so with my method I get two more rows, but with the other method I get 4 more rows!  I will just have to find a good way to get the back row higher now...

Don't ask. At least she's interested in home cinema equipment.

In this world (well in the UK anyway), you're either an Ikea person or an Argos person.  And everyone knows that if the chips were down, in a back alley fight Argos would beat the crap out of Ikea!

Billy? Bennos? Sounds like a cheap brand of hotdogs Netto would sell.  Argos Maine Tall Media CD and DVD Storage Towers rule!  I hate the fact that Ikea don't do proper home deliveries too; they expect you to travel hundreds of miles to get to their stores; such arrogance!

They'll be the first against the wall when they revolution comes.  (Well if there’s any wall free anywhere that’s not covered in Billy or Bennos shelving.)
Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

Two recyclable Cachet High Premium cat food boxes are about 5 mm, 0.19685 in, too long to fit. Here's a Cachet-to-Billy assembly instruction (no tools needed).

detach and lift up

push in the box

another point of view

fold in

Done.
