How do you join the Rules Committee? I see no mention of it anywhere but in these discussions.

When I joined there was a link in the forum description where you can request access

The link is still there: it opens up a PM to Gerri Cole. I've never requested access, and don't intend to.
Thanks for your support.

I know everyone can join by asking, but never did because it sounds "private elite group" to me and I don't join private elite group...

I always thought they let me in by mistake, so I never wrote anything to avoid detection.

I'm glad this was bumped just so I could read that gem.

Where is this link? What's the 'forum description'?

But it is one... or more precisely an elite group who like to go on endless argument about trivial detail over and over.

Thanks for that. No wonder I've never seen it. I always go into the forums via the drop-down menu. I've never actually viewed the 'forum index' page before.

Oh, I was referring to bbbbb's quote. Made me laugh.

It's far from an elite group. If all you have to do to get in is request access, that's not very top secret.

It's like complaining that a restaurant is elite because you refuse to open the door to go inside.

In your exemple the elitist restaurant would be the one where a guy open the door for you

If there's anything like an "Elite"-forum here this would be the "Developer"-forum.
You'd have to apply for being accepted.

Application form is containing this questions:

COM-complant development tools I'm familiar with:

My development experience is best described as:

I'll develop plugins for: Commercial sale? Free public download? Private use only?

If you have specific plans for a plugin, please give a brief description:

BTW: Am I a member of an Elite-Group because I had to pay a fee to be allowed to post in this forum?
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

And thank goodness for that. Running any software on your machine is like open heart surgery. You had better trust the surgeon.

Depends on your perspective. I consider the fee a license to use certain goods and services, one of which is Forum access. It is just a service, like any other product you pay for.

Yes, anyone can join, but by making members request joining it, you keep out a lot of random voices who may have nothing helpful to say and likely wouldn't have given the topic/idea a second thought otherwise.

I agree.  I don't see a problem with the current system since it's open to anyone that shows an interest.

That's not correct.

I requested access quite some time ago. Obviously there must be something more to it as I have not been allowed access.

That's not at all obvious to me, as that's all I did.

Perhaps your request just fell through the cracks.

I think you just have to wait until Gerri takes a look at her PMs.  She has a regular job, outside of Profiler, so she may not check in as often as she used to.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.
