Oh, it's going to happen, just no where on your scale.  Watching The Santa Clause is a tradition for me.

I haven't watched anything yet today, but I do have to work so maybe after I'll pop in one. I did start a bit early when I was in the mood (a few days before Turkey Day I watched a bunch of the cartoons I like). I find that as the season goes on I'm less...jolly. But this year I have a new job, still retail, but a lot smaller scale where people don't come to us for gifts. Yay! So I have a feeling my mood will be a little lighter this year by not having to deal with crazy shoppers.

@Filmalba: I live in the Midwest. Most people haven't traveled much further than 20 miles away from where they were born. Playing Christmas music like that would get angry calls to the radio station...who are those people! they'd say. Like I said, about the same 50 songs are played continuously. I'm sure in more urban areas there are more diverse artists played, but not here. They stick with the classics. One of my favorite Christmas cds is by Jill Sobule. I doubt it's ever been played on the radio, but one that I play every year.

NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service: The Sixth Season
NCIS: THE SIXTH SEASON finds the highly skilled NCIS team still under the able command of Special Agent Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), an uncompromising leader who will see justice done – even if it means bending the rules. This season, Gibbs welcomes new members to the unit, while directing the veteran agents in their dangerous investigations outside the chain of Naval and Marine command. Co-starring Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette, David McCallum, Sean Murray, Cote de Pablo, and Rocky Carroll, this 6-disc set includes all 25 action-packed Season 6 episodes, along with high-caliber, behind-the-scenes special features.

Episode Watched:
SILENT NIGHT
Working on a double homicide over Christmas, the team uncovers the truth about a prime suspect thought to have died 17 years previously – as well as a shocking personal revelation.

My Thoughts:
I thought I would start this year's marathon with one of my favorite current series. This is a good Christmas episode. I definitely enjoyed it. I kinda go a kick out of the ending where Tony got most all the group together to watch a Christmas movie. It fit his character perfectly since he been quoting movies from the very beginning of the series.

My Rating: 4/5

Bones: Season One
David Boreanaz (Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) stars as F.B.I. Agent Seeley Booth, who teams up with forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) to solve some of the most baffling and bizarre crimes ever. Booth depends on clues from the living, witnesses and suspects, while Brennan gathers evidence from the dead, relying on her uncanny ability to read clues left behind in the bones of the victims. Their different investigative styles cause the two to frequently clash, creating an undeniable chemistry and just the right touch of dark humor. Inspired by real-life forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs and state-of-the-art criminal invenstigation procedures, Bones is compelling, cutting-edge television.

Episode Watched:
THE MAN IN THE FALLOUT SHELTER
The team is quarantined and must remain in the lab over Christmas when the examination of a corpse trips the building's biohazard system.

My Thoughts:
This is an excellent episode. Bones has a great cast that has wonderful chemistry together. I think this was a very good way to do a Christmas episode for this series. The story was well done... I really liked the hologram Christmas Tree Angela made... as well as all the gifts they made for each other. Not to mention the case they were working on... they even made it good for the season. Definitely one I would recommend.

A Christmas Past: Vintage Holiday Films 1901-1925

Overview:  A collection of nine enchanting silent films, A CHRISTMAS PAST offers a nostalgic peek into the Yuletide pleasures of the early 1900s. Evoking the Victorian charm of Currier and Ives prints, these picturesque comedies and tender dramas were produced as cinematic Christmas cards offered to moviegoers of the silent film era.

    "A Holiday Pageant at Home"
Made in 1901, this is both the earliest short on the disc, and the shortest at 5 minutes.  It features a family, whose children give a short pageant for mother and father.  There's no record of who made this short film - the package lists it as "producer unknown."

    "A Winter Straw Ride"
This was made in 1906 by The Edison Film Manufacturing Company, and lasts 7 minutes.  It's a look at ladies riding in two large sleighs, gents throw snowballs at them, and the sleighs topple over and the ladies and gents have fun in the snow with snowball fighting, sliding down hills and general frolicking.

    "A Trap for Santa"
D. W. Griffith made this 16 minute short in 1909.  It's a melodrama about a poor woman and her two children who come into money just after her husband abandons the family in despair.  Now in a beautiful home, the children set a trap to catch Santa ... but catch someone else instead.

    "A Christmas Accident"
This is another Edison short film, running 15 minutes, from 1912.  Here we have an old miserly curmudgeon and his wife living next door to a struggling young family.  He is consistently mean and spiteful toward the young family who always make friendly overtures toward him.  An accident on Christmas brings him to change his heart.

My Thoughts:  We got home late tonight, so we watched 4 of the short films on this disc, and plan to get in the other 5 tomorrow night.  They're an interesting look at life, and filmmaking, in the early part of last century.  All of these were made before my grandmother was born - and when "A Holiday Pageant at Home" was made, my great-grandmother would have been 4.  Really brings home how old these are, to me at least.  It's interesting to see how they get better with each one - both technically, with how they are filmed, and in their stories and characterization.  Especially the last two are charming films, with poignant little stories to tell.  It's also fascinating to get a glimpse of what life was like back then.  My mom remarked she was glad I had picked up this disc for us, and I have to agree with her.

My Rating: 3/5 (entertaining - and interesting as examples of very early filmmaking)

Watching Babes in Toyland...over an hour into it and still don't know why this is classified as a Christmas movie! Oops, the Toymaker just tied it in...he makes toys for the season

Kind of a cute one, but I don't think it'll be a favorite, glad I watched it finally, though. It's kind of fun trying to recognize all the Disney stars of the day.

And for the Christmas songs...yeah, we get a lot like those too. I know I've heard that Wham one! We get this one played a lot:

My Thoughts:
Last year Brittany gave me this DVD out of her collection because she didn't care for it. So I went into this one not expecting much. And it is a good thing. While there is a decent base story... they didn't do so well with it. It really should have been much better. But as it is... it is barely an average show... if that.  I never been much on music as most of you already know... and even I knew some of the songs in this cartoon was out of place. Anyway... I wasn't too impressed with this one... but what can you expect from an animated movie based on a silly song?

Evoking the Victorian charm of Currier and Ives prints, these picturesque comedies and tender dramas were produced as cinematic Christmas cards offered to moviegoers of the silent film era.

"The Adventure of the Wrong Santa Claus: An Adventure of Octavius - Amateur Detective"
Amateur detective Octavius is asked to a house party by a friend, who wants him to play Santa Claus.  When a burglar (also dressed as Santa) steals the family's Christmas presents, Octavius is determined to get them back.

    "Santa vs. Cupid"
Another Edison short, this one is 14 minutes long and from 1914.  Jack and Edward are rivals for the affection of Helen Bower, and both end up at her mother's house party.  Meanwhile, one of the Bower's chauffeurs is distraught over his wife's illness and his family's poverty, and is brought to a drastic choice.

    "Santa Claus"
This 29 minute short film is the longest on the disc, and the latest, dating from 1925.  Two children wait up for Santa, and when he arrives they ask him how he spends his time when it isn't Christmas.  Santa sits with them and tells them all about his daily life.

    "A Christmas Carol"
This 10 minute short film is a very early version of Dickens famous tale from Edison in 1910.  It hits the the high points of the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge.

    "The Night Before Christmas"
This is another Edison short, 9 minutes long from 1905.  Santa is busy feeding his reindeer and loading his sleigh for Christmas eve.  A large family prepares for the night too, hanging their stockings and tucking the children in bed.  The children can't sleep and have a pillow fight.  Eventually Santa arrives with their presents, and they wake up and open them after he has left.

My Thoughts:  These are all such charming little films.  They've really lost none of their appeal, unless you're a heartless Scrooge or only watch films for their effects.  The sequence in "The Night Before Christmas" where Santa's sleigh dashes across mountains and flies through the air, is a fabulously done model shot, and is not only the highlight of that film but of the whole disc.  It's just so very clever and neat to watch.  All of these shorts really have an 'old-fashioned Christmas' feel to them, a Christmas about family and friends, and sharing and giving.  I'm really glad I picked up this DVD, it's a true Christmas spirit sort of collection, and recommended ... unless you can't stand silent era films.

My Rating: 3/5 (love that reindeer sleigh model!)

This is one of those cheap boxsets from Mill Creek Entertainment. It contains 12 Holiday Movies, 12 Holiday TV Episodes and 27 Christmas Cartoons. Really know little to nothing about these... but thought it would make for some decent filler into my current marathon.

Title: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation: Special Edition
Year: 1989
Director: Jeremiah Chechik
Rating: PG-13
Length: 97 Min.
Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.78:1
Audio: English: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround, French: Dolby Digital: Mono, Commentary: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo
Subtitles: English, French, Spanish

Stars:
Chevy Chase
Beverly D'Angelo
Juliette Lewis
Johnny Galecki
John Randolph
Diane Ladd

Plot:
This holiday season Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) vows his clan will enjoy "the most fun-filled family Christmas ever." Before you can sing "Fa-la-la-la-lah," he decks the halls with howls of folly in the perennial favorite National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

Seeing is believing. There are 25,000 lights on the roof. An exploding turkey on the dining room table. A SWAT team taking siege outside. A festive supporting cast (including Beverly D'Angelo, Randy Quaid, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Juliette Lewis, William Hickey and more). And a John Hughes script full of wit, heart and sheer goofiness. Yule love it!

Extras:
Scene Access
Audio Commentary
Feature Trailers
Production Notes
Closed Captioned

My Thoughts:
This one I enjoyed quite a bit. It wasn't quite as good as the first Vacation movie... but felt it was better then both European Vacation and Vegas Vacation. As usual they played around with the kids in the family once again... but this time not only did they change the actors playing them... they made the kids younger as well. And surprisingly for the Christmas movie... the kids really took a back seat in this one... not having much to do in the story at all this time. In this one they have Johnny Galecki playing their son... who most of us know now playing Leonard on The Big Bang Theory.... and Juliette Lewis playing their daughter... who I personally know best from her part as the preacher's daughter in From Dusk till Dawn. Anyway... I found this movie to be a lot of fun... has a few good laugh out loud moments. I can easily see this one become part of my annual Christmas viewing.
