Quote: The Internet and the government: the two most debatable places to get reliable information
I was a moon-landing conspiracy theorist while growing up. For me it wasn't a debate as to if we ever went to the moon as is still the belief of many people. What I debated was if the first landing happened
And you were right to be skeptical. Here is a powerful expose that the landings were faked
Faked Moon Landings With footprints, flags, monitoring instruments and the descent stages of LEM's from each of the Moon landings are plainly visible from satellite pics taken by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter in 2009 ... check it out ... and yes, the astronauts' footprints are plainly visible in the surface dust: | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. But the successful lunar landing on July 20, 1969, was not a given. A memo of a speech drafted by William Safire just days before the landing, is surfacing again on the Web. The memo is titled "In Event of Moon Disaster."
Back in 1999, William Safire discussed the undelivered speech with Tim Russert on NBC's "Meet The Press."
Safire was asked to consider an alternative to a successful moon landing.
Nixon's speech writer explained, "At that time, the most dangerous part of the moon mission, was getting the moon module back up into orbit and join the command ship."
Safire added, "But if they couldn't , they would have to be abandoned on the moon, left to die there. And mission control would have to close down communication. The men would either starve to death or commit suicide."
... This almost actually happened. As Neil Armstrong himself explained in a rare interview when he visited the Netherlands last year, when they were in the Lunar Module preparing to fire it to return to orbit, Buzz Aldrin made a movement which caused his suit to break off a switch of a circuit-breaker that was vital for firing the LM's engine. Eventually they had to improvise and use a pen to jam the switch to make sure the engine would fire in time. So a pen saved both men's lives. You can watch the video footage of this part of the Armstrong interview here. |

We were given them to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the launch of ESA's Envisat.....two weeks later the spacecraft control system died! | | | Chris | | | Last edited: by Mole |

Yea, but if you go down further it gets more and more ridiculous until you see that it was intended as a joke like pictures of aliens in front of the camera with the author acting as if they are not there and just goes on talking about basic stuff. | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

| Posted: | | | | May 1965 I set out in my 1963 Avanti from Phoenix to Merritt Island, Florida as part of the installation team for GE635 computer that would collect the test and liftoff data for the Apollo missions. I stayed there until September 1967 responsible for the computer's acceptance and in charge of the site. After I left sometime I had to return to Merritt Island for a number Apollo shots.
The computer was installed in a new building, the CIF (Communication Instrumentation Facility). This was all part of NASA's expansion to Merritt Island from the Cape Canaveral. This building is four stories high and four stories below ground. It is a straight shot to the VAB (Vehicle Assembly Building) and my office had great view of Apollo launch.
The standard operating system was modified to run in three different mode, general purpose, a mode to prepare the parameters do the various displace they would be monitoring and mission mode.
At first we were the only occupants of the CIF and air-conditioning seemed to have only two settings on or off. In June, in Florida it was cold I'm working in a hooded ski jacket. The a/c's wind was so forceful it blown the ceiling panels out and shredded the metallic backing which of course fell into the computer.
Once the building was fully functional they had a tour of the place, it was amazing.
Most people don't know that the US Air Force had a similar setup on Cape Canaveral as NASA did on Merritt Island. When we moved the GE225 computer to the new CIF building they had to change trucks in the middle of the bridge because TWA had the contract on one side ans I think Pan-Am had the contract on the other side.
Now for all you conspiracy theorists out there, it has been rumored that the US Air Force has had a manned station on the moon for decades. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. I don't believe it's logistically possible or financially possible to build or maintain a base on the moon. Or maybe that's just what they want us to believe. Cool story though from one the better times in the US. |
