What I did was go ahead and submit with the opening credits guy, and kept the other guy local (just changed his role to Other locally and typed Film Editor in the box).

Does anyone know why we credit the one guy and not the other?  I'm actually curious.

I would venture a guess that some of the additional credits are for those who didn't finish with the film.

I've seen extra Executive Producers, Art Directors, Editors)

Well, I've always understood that Invelos wanted to restrict crew entries to key crew members only. Not just as far as editing is concerned, but accross the board. For instance, we're looking for the film's director, and we don't include anyone credited as "co-director", or people that are credited for directing a specific sequence, or even directing a specific unit. We're looking for the "Special Effects Supervisor", but not for the subsequent bunch of "Special Effects Technicians". And so on...

Also: when we started to track crew, and had to decide what to track and what to leave out, there was talk of emulating Oscar-categories. As far as I know - but please correct me if I'm wrong - the "principal" editor credited in the opening credits is the one who's eligible for an Oscar, while additional editors buried deep down in the end credits are not.

Finally, there's the rub that we can't show the difference between the principal "Edited By" credit and the additional film editor from the end credits in the online database. Locally, we can use the custom role field to make a distinction, but online, it would just seem that the film was jointly edited by two people - which isn't an accurate reflection of the film credits.

Again, compare this with the "Co-Directed By" credit on a major film like 'Cars'. John Lassiter gets "Directed By", while Joe Ranft gets "Co-Directed By". We leave out the latter - not because his contribution to the film wasn't significant, but because the online database would make it look like two equal "Directed By" credits, and again, that would not be an accurate representation of the film credits. Do I retain Joe Ranft locally? Of course I do! And I do the same for many of these additional editing credits. But for online purposes, they're currently not allowed, and as long as no distinction can be made, I understand why.

Okay, thanks Tim!  That makes sense.

But considering that, why do we accept Wardrobe credits when a Costume Designer credit is present?

I'm sure T!M will agree....because of a glitch in the rules.

As with the rules for Production Sound Mixer (omitting 'Sound' credits if one is present) the same should be said for Costume Supervisor, Wardrobe Supervisor, Wardrobe, Costumes etc.
If a Costume Designer is credited leave the rest out.

Unfortunately, the rules don't say that so we include them all if credited. I didn't used to, but then I found others were having to revisit my contributions to add them in; which I thought was unfair on other users, so I started adding them.
I feel the same way about some of the sound crew - re-recording engineers, for example.

But, while these things are in the rules, and people want them, I will continue to submit them.

Indeed - I agree. I'm fully convinced that it was never the intent to enter both a Costume Designer (again: an Oscar-eligible crew credit) AND the subsequent wardrobe credits - those were just added to the rules to allow for the sole costume/wardrobe credit in "older films", when they weren't all called "Costume Supervisor". Unfortunately, since we didn't get a note here like the one we got for editing, we're now entering all of them as "Costume Designers". Call it a glitch, call it an oversight, but it certainly makes no sense if you look at how we deal with the rest of the crew.
