If the rules were actually read and understood the question would not have needed to be asked. But...

I don't get this...  First, if they were 'understood' then of course he wouldn't have bothered to make a post about it.  Second, is making a post about a question about a submission a bad thing?  Isn't it better than guessing and making a bad submission?  I'm not sure if your post was intended to be negative and critical of the OP but it comes across that way to me. I don't think the rules are as clear as you seem to think they are.

FWIW I have the BB Exclusive of Inception with the shooting script, which was the normal combo in a slip case with the script book, the outer case had a different UPC.  In the database it was set up as the Slip/book as the parent and the normal combo as the child.  While I can see why this is done, I prefer to have it all under one profile, so i updated it and locked it down locally.

I didn't reference the op at all in that comment. Though I believrule is fairly clear in its own right, as to what allows us to.create a profile of a bonus disc. I think you handled Inception properly for yourself. I was left with the impression that husker had misunderstood the rule, tim had corrected it and I was merely reinforcing it. Remember that from my pov I see an awful lot if either plain old misunderstandings of the rules, or very deliberate attempts to squirm around them, coupled with users who don't want to listen when someone can offer some clarity. As I said before, you can call me cynical , but I have come to believe there is far more of the latter than the former, but I don't believe that was true of either the op or husker, simple.misunderstandings. I am still intrigued by the various gee yaws that are sometimes included and whether or not they bring something to the table in value.

OK, first off I never asked about the bonus dvd (aka special features dvd).

I asked about the regular blu-ray (with it's own case/UPC#) which was inside this larger box that contained the bottle opener. And since both have UPC#s how do we profile these two things, the box and the regular blu-ray release put inside.

You simply profile the movie by it's outer UPC. This way you have one UPC for the bottle opener edition and another for the regular blu-ray.

Karsten is correct cubby. Time was when this was common with slips, when they ran out of slips they would re release the title without it and the upc on the inner cover was different, usually about $5 less without the slip. This is very similar. They will simply release the movie without the goody at a reduced price and that will get its own profile in due time.

You posted in this thread and questioned why it was posted in the first place, so by posting it in the first place you are referencing them.

It may be clear for you, but it might not be others.  What is the problem with getting clarification?  I don't like having additional children profiles unless absolutely unnecessary, but I can see how others might find them useful.  Even if I don't have them it is easy enough just to click no when I'm notified there are children profiles associated with them when adding them to my collection.

I think that is the thing, you weren't 'merely' reinforcing him but adding in your opinion that it was an unneeded question.

I think this is your biggest problem.  Instead of taking a post, thread or question at face value you are reading in things into them.  Maybe someone is trying to skirt the rules but what if they aren't?

I think they most certainly do, at least for some collectors and are definitely worth profiling.

Well double I think if you follow the sequencing and timing you might find what I was specifically referring to. Hint tim got it right and my next post reinforced that. The post after that was another story and had more to do with someone who had clearly not read the rule or the entire thread and was simply trying to stir the pot and got a comment appropriate for stirring the pot. Nothing more than that. The rule states under what conditions we can create a bonus disc profile, but someone asked anyway. Tim even quoted the rule in its entirety, that was relevant, yet it was asked. Necessary...I think not...stirring the pot...I think so.

I wasn't sure what Skip meant by his statement - I therefore politely asked for a clarification - becasue I very seldom contribute these types of profiles.

If a statement is vague, and one doesn't understand, expect to be asked about it.

I wasn't "stirring the pot" - why must you make things something they are not? PLEASE stop jumping down my throat when I post anything.

Edit: I had unblocked Skip - that was a mistake. <block enabled>

My own solution would be to treat this as a box set with a single child, which would be the regular release. Most of the time, the whole thing just gets profiled under the UPC of the outside box. The rules don't clearly say either way.

I have quite a few sets like this and this is how they have all been done, with one addition...because the set does inculde the regular UPC version, that version is added to the box set contents.

That's how I think it should be done, but I've hardly seen any done like this in practice.
