But please do understand that I don't really mean any of this; it's just my dry sense of humour, that results from being part of a declining colonial power, that’s grown bitter and twisted with disappointment at its waning political clout internationally. Goodness, we’re struggling to even hold on to Scotland, the Germans beat us at absolutely everything and we can’t even get a decent number of points in the Eurovision Song Contest anymore; and it’s raining today too! How humiliating... I'm also having to deal with the disappointment of not being named in The Queen’s New Year's honours list, again. Maybe my letter's got lost in the post?
