I realize this is something that most around here don't even want to think about around here... I normally don't either... but I knew I had a lot given to me this year so I was curios...

I REALLY need to thank a lot of generous friends that I have... for 2012 alone...

SRP: $10,685.01

Well, I'm sure everyone will agree that you've had quite enough generosity. I think you're friends should spread the love around a bit!!

$3980.55 spent in 2012, third most spent so far, behind 2007 and 2003.  Average paid was $17.85, the second lowest average yet (behind only 2003).

SRP total was $7219.24, so saved 45%.

To Gerri: It's a business expense, honest!

To the IRS: Yes, I know it's not a business expense.

On DVDP calculated figures...

Paid out: £1378.78 for 231 titles (just under £6 per title)
SRP: £4384.84
Saving: £3006.06 so approx 69% saved

Overall that makes it a low cost year for me (the only full year lower was last year) but not quite as good a percentage saving as in the past.

£3,214.84 ($5,222.35) spent in 2012, third most spent so far, behind 2011 and 2010.

Average paid was £7.47 ($12.13), the 6th highest (or if you prefer the 5th lowest).  Considering I’m now buying lots more Blu-ray discs than I ever have before and I've now bought most of the older (cheaper) stuff I want, I’m quite pleased with this.  My ‘rule’ of not paying more than £9 for a DVD or £11 for a Blu-ray disc is paying off I think.  (Box sets and imports have slightly different ‘rules’.)

No idea what ‘saving’ that represents, as a lot don’t have a SRP/RRP; the latter feels like a totally pointless bit of marketing.  Quite a lot were bought with discount vouchers and other cashbacks too, I’d estimate about £600-£700.

Where do people buy their DVDs?  For me 67% come from amazon.co.uk (or 70% if I include ones from amazon.com).  I feel kind of guilty about this, as Amazon is a bit too good at what it does, to the determent of all its competitors; and it’s also too good at exploiting the British tax system so is presently the subject of a boycott call, although that's a bit like trying to boycott air.  But I know each time I buy a DVD from Amazon a butterfly dies somewhere.
Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

I have a similar rule. No more than €10 for a DVD and €13 for a Blu-ray. Since I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon UK, there my limits are £8 and £10. And if that means waiting a few months for movies like The Avengers then so be it.

When it comes to TV shows I have become patient and wait for them to fall beneath $25 / £18 / €20.
