Can you imagine the ping ponging of data that this would cause??????

Each edition has a release date. A more recent could replace an older one, not the contrary. No ping ponging...

I have yet to see any way to know the exact dates a re-release comes out. I have many re-releases in my collection... and haven't found the dates for them yet.

Where do you all find them?

Re-releases don't have release dates most of the time, at least in the US. Many times they just pop up at the stores or when you order from amazon you suddenly get a different cover.

Can of worms!

I'm totally against such change. DVD Profiler desperately needs some improvements, but this particular rule should IMHO not be touched.

For French editions, we have two sites :
dvdpascher
dvdfr
Probably most localities have similar sites...

Thanks... can't read french anyway. But the format gave me an idea of what you are talking about. While we do have similar sites... the ones I have seen don't give the dates of when a title is re-released.

Errm that'll be no, so the easiest way as the program stands is to maintain the earliest release stays in the database.

Agreed. Even if I do buy a "re-release" of a title at a later date, I actually prefer having the original edition details to download in a profile. I can change whatever details locally if I want to then.

The program very much and very clearly needs updated to be able to hold or link multiple releases or variations of a UPC or even disc ID.
99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1."

Being a person who finds their DVDs (mostly) visually while on the shelf, I would find having my artwork in my database changed arbitrarily to be annoying, and it would render this program useless to me.

The simplest solution when adding a title would be that after the program connects to download the artwork, if there are two possible covers, have a pop-up to select the artwork you have, just as you can automatically have a pop-up for personalization.  If you're the kind of person that wants the latest upgraded artwork, regardless of what is in your hand, then you can pick the newer scan.  If, like me, you prefer your artwork to match what you own, then you can pick the more accurate option.

They're just going to have to re-write the image portion of the database to allow for more than two scans to be attached to the key item of the database (in this case I'm assuming it's the UPC).
