The solution I will continue with is as follows...

For Christmas, I received a number of movies.  This time, I contributed the new ones via the PC version of the DVD Profiler.  I then did NOT upload to my online collection.  After the movies were released by the team, I used my iPad to add the new movies as if they were completely new to me.  These ones added perfectly and I could upload and sync across all devices.

Strange that the uploads prior to release would suddenly cause the errors describe throughout my post but at least I have a way around it now.
