I think the rules/statements regarding the issues are rather clear.  All the information should be within one profile, but we have the option of contributing the 'children' in the different formats.

I used to not care to use the DVD 'Children' but some time ago I decided to use them. and follow the rules when contributing them.  I also choose to alter the 'parents', removing the disc IDs for the 'children' , removing features, Media type, etc, but I keep that to my local and would never contribute it.  I also started creating my own combo packs, Adding DVD that I replaced with Blu-rays into a bigger Blu-ray case.  I then move the DVD as a child to the Blu-ray, of course needless to say this is done in my local only.

I understand those that don't like using children for their combo packs, it screws up the cast/crew listing them multiple times for the same title, etc.  It is more cluttered, and I can understand not wanting to use them.  But what I don't really understand is why anyone would care that some do like to use them?  If you don't want to add the children to your collection then don't.. but why do you care if others do?

The reason I care is because I have seen a few of these with conflicting information between the parent profile and the optional child - disc id - profile. Most notably, cast and crew lists - different on the parent then on the child. Then when this is a 3D/2D blu-ray pack I become a little annoyed when I try to fix said profile by updating one of the above profiles with the same cast and crew list as is on the other and my contribution is then declined.

Sounds like your problem should be with having contributions being declined, not sure what that has to do with Child profiles you don't use.

I'ts far from a perfect system, ideally there would only be one profile to update for each version of a film.  But as it stands now we have to do each unique release separately.  I have found that the two (or three) are usually in sync.  But have noticed the odd difference here and there.  Are you sure your declined contribution was following the rules?  What did they say when your contribution was declined?

@Parsec:
What did you write in your contribution notes for these declined contributions? Did you make it clear that you were harmonizing Cast and Crew lists for parent and child profiles?

Yes, part of the notes were discussing the difference in the cast/crew lists between parent and child. Other changes were also added - audio tracks, rating etc. The original contributed profile was a copy of a US profile of a BD/DVD release and it hadn't been corrected.

No reason was given for the contribution being declined.

I fix a lot of profiles I come across that are done like this (as I buy the release), the whole thing just becomes annoying sometimes. I'd rather just re-do the entire profile from scratch then have to fix all the errors. Maybe I should take a sedative rather then getting annoyed :-)

My update has been re-submitted so I will see what happens. I re-submitted it allowing the "boxset" to stay. Even though I know the reason it is a boxset is because it was copied from a USA BD/DVD release - which goes back to the option of adding a child for the DVD. I''m guessing it was copied from 024543867753 as it had it's audio tracks, rating etc (which are all wrong for the AU 3D release)

Thus my original question in this topic - are we allowing same for BD 3D/BD 2D

I think I found the reason it was declined!!  So your submission included the omission of the 'child' profile?  As a voter I would have voted a strong No and would hope the screeners would decline it as well.  BTW not trying to be confrontational, but you were trying to remove valid data.  And I may have misinterperted your post, so if I did my apologies.

I do wish the screeners were more aware of adding child DVDs... many times the HD audio tracks, features, just about everything gets added.

To be honest, I don't think I tried to remove the child in the original submission - but I don't quite remember. There were no votes cast, so it was a screener only decision. As I said, I resubmitted the exact same update and today it has the 'approved' stamp. By the way - I have, on previous occasions, sent in profile updates to have child's removed and they have been accepted.

Hmm, interesting.  If you hadn't removed it, then the original decline might have been an accident, it's happened to me before.

Again, not sure why you'd remove the boxset as it doesn't affect you.
