I found a thread concerning Nude Nuns with Big Guns here

Quote Ken Cole
Quote:
The S is shared between the words.  Neither "Nude nun with big guns", "Nude nuns with big gun", nor "Nude nuns with big guns" is exactly what's shown on the cover, although I would say that given no other information, each of these is as valid an interpretation as the others.

Since there's no way to enter a 'shared' letter into a text field, we must pick one of the three.  In this case, the spine, title screens, and credit block all agree - 'Nude Nuns with Big Guns'

Quoting the contribution rules:
Quote:
For titles which include periods, dashes, or other symbols, check the credit block on the back of the case if included. If not, check the film credits or opening sequence. Use these to determine whether to exclude or convert the symbol to a standard character such as ".", "-", or "*"

and extend it to letters?

These are 2 references to checking credit block, the spine, or film credits to determine.

Rules are clear. People can try to find a reason for "Space", the rules result is "Sp Ce".
Of course, this is stupid, as are many other things that we enter in the database because "rules ask to do that".
So, we correct all stupid things, or none. People who support those rules and refuse to accept correct data in other fields  should not open threads to try to violate them just when this is their wish.

The shuttle photo cannot be considered as a period, a dash or a symbol, so we cannot use this part of the rule "For titles which include periods, dashes, or other symbols, check the credit block on the back of the case if included. "

It most certainly may be considered a symbol, because that's exactly what it is in this case.

I see it as a shuttle photo for a film about a shuttle flight. I have learned here to consider just things as they are on cover (or in credits) , never interpret, never add or remove anything.

Note that rules  about symbols, say : "Use these to determine whether to exclude or convert the symbol to a standard character such as ".", "-", or "*".
Do you propose "Sp.ce", "Sp,ce", "Sp-ce" or "Sp*ce" ?  Rules never consider to convert symbols to letters...

"Such as" means that we are being given examples, and not a comprehensive listing.  In this case the most appropriate "standard character" to convert the shuttle symbol to is "A".

The problem is that you interpret the shuttle as a symbol, though it is a photo.

Would you say that the title for this film is "A Armageddon" since the shuttle photo is a symbol and must be converted to A ?.

Once again, no interpretation, just what is on cover. And do not try to use common sense here, it is strictly forbidden. We are not even allowed to convert correctly capital letters to small letters, just "as what you see"

I don't understand why there is any discussion about that shuttle. I think that everyone here agrees that this film ist not and never was called "Sp ce Camp". I understand that there are discussions when the rules are not clear and people do disagree (like in the thread about additional visual effects companies). But if everyone her agrees that the shuttle represents an "a" and nobody really wants to vote "no" on "Space Camp", then just contribute it with that name and stop arguing about it.
Recently bought films:

The Matrix [Blu-ray] | Shirins Wedding [DVD] | The Graduate [Blu-ray] | Prometheus [Blu-ray 3D] | Hwal [DVD]

Because you cannot choose the rules you follow and the rules you violate. Her rules say Sp Ce, and nothing else. BTW, it is far to be the worst about stupid data that we must enter in the database.

Of course I agree that the film name should be Space Camp. But that isn't the question. He asked what it should be Per Rules, and that is Sp Ce Camp. Some of us is trying to make a point that we have a VERY stupid ruling here and Ken hasn't done anything to fix it, which should be very easy. That would stop all these stupid "conversations".

Just what data are you calling stupid? I'd be careful what you call stupid or the next time you launch DVDP the data just might jump out and bite you on the butt. Then we'll have another 45 page conversation about that.
Data is as data does.
To data or not to data that is the question.

An image can be used as a symbol no differently then anything else. It is obvious that on this release they are using the image of the shuttle as an A.... so that is how we must treat it... even per the rules as they are written.

All we have here is a disagreement of whether the space shuttle itself is being used as a symbol or not. Not anyone trying to "follow some rules and break other rules".

I believe 100% without a doubt that that space shuttle on the cover is a symbol for the A... so that is how I treat it per the rules.

All I can tell you is if you believe 100% that it is not a symbol then vote per rules on that belief.
