I never got the impression it is just a temporary thing. Not going by what Ken said in either thread. And it is always better to have more eyes on it. Especially considering how many people we have around here voting yes to anything. It only takes 1 to see a potential problem or broken rule that the others don't see. Which may not come until later in the voting. So sorry... but I truly see this as a bad thing.

It's not the yes votes that need the time, most people vote yes blindly. Need time to find and screen the film to make sure the new info is correct (some of us are disorganized with storage), check forums for rulings from Ken, BY and common name threads. Personally, I don't rubber stamp contributions. Takes me an average of 3 days.

That's the crux of the problem that no length of voting will fix.

Everyone that comes to the forum has the right to and should have enough time to vote on all contributions.

People who don't upload their database can't vote, whether they visit the forums or not.

I am not asking for the time to be lengthened or shortened... I am just asking for it to be put back to exactly the way it was for all these years.

The minimum time has always been 48 hours.  The average time in queue was 118 hours (4.9 days) last year, which means sometimes it was longer and sometimes it was shorter - as short as 48 hours.  I don't think that returning to an erratic and unpredictable 2-7 days is the answer.

We'll pick the proper period, and attempt to keep processing up to date to reduce the erratic timeframe.

For those who aren't aware, here are some facts about voting:

- Contributor and voter accuracy are tracked.  Voting "yes" blindly on everything will result in future votes carrying less weight.
- Votes with notes bubble directly to the top, so the evaluator sees them directly.

When I contribute profiles most of the time the votes are made in in a couple of days. So, 2 or 3 days seems adequate to me.

I've set it at 4 days for now, let's see how this works in practice.

Might I suggest an alternative:

7 days or 10 yes votes with 0 no votes - whichever comes first.

Play with those figures if you like, but that might be a way of 'automating' the majority of changes (remove the need for reviewer involvement for anything approved with a 10-0 vote).

Of course, there's a world of permutations to the suggestion.
This is a sig... ... ... yay...

Don't understand? Maybe DVDProfilerWiki.org does!

I thought initially 2 days would be enough. I have come to the conclusion that a longer period is required because the time difference between the US and Australia could potentially put us at a disadvantage as we could be asleep at the time of lodgment and then go to work and will not see the vote for at least 24hrs.

This was prompted by some US deals on DVD / BD that are offered in the US which have a limited time and I have found myself late at night or in the morning thinking the offer is over before I could take advantage.

Cheers

I think 4-5 days is good. Most voters seem to vote within the first 2-3 days. Another day or two for stragglers should be good.

A week seems too long especially for that first week of release when you can essentially have blank profiles and all the information is pending.

The problem with a required number of yes votes is that the amount of votes varies enormously across localities. While a number of, let's say 10, might be easily reached in the US locality and perhaps a few others, in smaller localities such numbers are never reached - which would make such a rule automatically default to 7 days.

Even in the U.S., there are lots of obscure DVDs that would never get 10 votes.

I'm confused what people mean by 'voting blind'?  I think people may have different interpretation of it.

When I vote, I look what is being updated.  Depending on the what is being updated I look at the notes.  If it makes sense and I believe it is following the rules than I vote 'Yes'.  If someone posts that they have updated the cast & crew from another approved profile I don't download or look at that profile.  The only time I might do that is if it is someone I'm not familiar with or something just looks wrong then I will do additional investigation.  But if the contribution is from someone I recognize as making quality submissions, supplied sufficient contribution notes and the updates look to follow the rules then I vote 'Yes'

My definition of 'voting blind' is just clicking 'Yes' without looking at the contributions and notes.?  I may be wrong, but it seems that many are of the opinion that every voter should investigate each link, etc.  While I think it is great that some do that, I don't think that should be the level of expectation.  If we were getting paid to do so that would be a different story.  At the end of the day its the screener's job to make sure the contribution is accurate, IMO.  Also IMO, the voters are in place to make the screener's job easier.

93% of my submissions (323 Total) in my current submission have less than 10 votes.

When I say voting blind I mean just instantly vote yes to everything... without even reading notes or anything it would seem. I have even seen times where someone say they took Cast, crew... everything from imdb and still get yes votes.
