To be blunt about it, Daddy, who cares what you like about the US?  Like or dislike whatever you want from the Netherlands -- it matters nothing to me.  I know you think you are being clever by turning Rifter's words around, but he was speaking about how he feels his country is moving.  Your opinion from afar is irrelevant.

It's exactly the attitude of "I don't care what they think" that will be the downfall of every nation who thinks the whole world will stop turning when they do.

BTW, I was not trying to be smart because I meant every word I said.

Seconded, ken. As I have stated elsewhere, for those countries who simply must have a voice in the internal of the United states, then I suggest that you read our Constitution and petition our Congress for statehood, we can always use more tax money. If not then kindly butt out as you have no voice and the politics of the US are no concern of yours, Martin, I have one question for YOU specifically, Have you ever seen myself or any other US user give voice to whether or not the Brits shoudl have elected PM Brown or the Germans election of Ms. Merkel, either before of after their election. I know you have not and will never hear such comments from me, and I don't believe i have seen it any other US citizen on these boards. I am not a citizen of britain or germany, though i have ties to both countries, therfore any opinion I may have is totally invalid. You opinion likewise has no validity, and I frankly find the expression of any Foreign National vis a vis the internal affairs of the United States to highly offensive, rude and insulting.

I'm sorry if you disagree, but I cannot base my life decisions (like who I want to represent me as President) on the opinions and feelings of someone in another nation.  Especially when I don't share those opinions.  To me, the minuses of having Obama as President far outweigh the minuses you claim for a McCain presidency.  I understand you're worried about how you will be affected by our next President.  My concern, however, is with the totality of the presidency -- not just how it affects the US vis a vis the world community.  I don't live in the world community, I live in the US.

I don't subscribe to the concept that the "whole world will stop turning when they [the US] do."  In the first place, I don't see that the US will stop turning if either Obama or McCain are elected.  What I see happening, however, is that Obama's policies would move us in a much different direction than I believe is desirable.  I don't think, for example, that there is anything wrong with the US moving to the right.  To me that is only correcting a flawed tilt to the left that an Obama Presidency would re-instate.

It came across as being snide, though.  I don't doubt that you were being sincere, but that doesn't change how it sounded.

We all share the same world. As long as the US try to dominate the rest of the world the rest of the world is entitled to have an opinion on US politics. There is absolutely nothing offensive, rude or insulting about it.

Where exactly is this happening?  There in the U.K.? Or Germany?  Or the Netherlands? or Sweden?  Just exactly where?

Iraq, perhaps?  Just how much of their territory have we confiscated; or their oil? or any of their natural resources?

Afghanistan, perhaps?  Same questions as above.

Please enlighten us all as to where the U.S. is attempting to dominate the rest of the world.

What we are doing is using our military capabilities to PROTECT the rest of the world; we provide humanitarian aid all over the world to help fight starvation and disease and natural disasters.

And what do we get in return....disdain!

If I had my way, we'd go back to complete isolationism and watch the rest of you fend for yourselves.  No exports, no imports, no military support outside of our borders, no immigration, no banking, no investments, no business.

I'd give it five years.  No more.

That may apply to some, but I meant every word I said, and believe that I correct in what I said.

Oh, there most certainly is in your statement above.  The US is NOT trying to dominate the rest of the world in any way, shape, or form.  Flawed as we may be, in a variety of ways, if the US decided to retire behind its borders and cut off all aid of any kind to the rest of the world, it wouldn't be long before a great many countries would collapse under the assault of tyrrany, starvation, and a general slide into anarchy and disease-ridden poverty.  There is no other country in history that has been as generous with its technology, military protection, medical help, and food to the rest of the world, regardless of political leanings in many cases.

Frankly, listening to these foreign experts, John, perhaps the best thin we could do is pull back to our own shores and leave them all to their fate, it wouldn't take very long, sadly.

Overview of America's International Strategy:

'The United States possesses unprecedented— and unequaled—strength and influence in the world. Sustained by faith in the principles of liberty, and the value of a free society, this position comes with unparalleled responsibilities, obligations, and opportunity. The great strength of this nation must be used to promote a balance of power that favors freedom.'

I interpret this as domination, others may not.

Based on the US trade deficit I would give you less than 5 years...

Instead of rhetoric, give me examples where we are dominating the rest of the world!

It would be a very difficult time, especially since we have failed to secure energy independence (due to obstructionism of the Democrats) as has been called for over the past 35 years, but rest assured, we'd be here AS A FREE NATION far longer than any country in Europe.
