Here is an interesting tidbit.  In the United States if you go to the hospital we use the metric system at least where I am in AZ.  Centigrade for temperature, kg for weight and cm for height.  So some people mostly doctors and nurses do use the metric system on a regular basis.  Also being a shooter we measure for ranges in meters.  My .308 is currently ranged for about 200 meters.  Short for the weapon but fun...

That's easy... because it's derived from scientific values and literature. If you want to really waste money filling your tank just stroll to the west end of europe... over 1.35 euros per liter of gasoline I believe.

I'm an American and I've become way, way to used to cheap gas. I hate these new gas prices. My father-in-law works for a major oil company and he claims the price of oil going up in the US is to drive our dollar down to make the exporting of our products more appealing to foreign countries.

I'm not really concerned. As long as I am sitting around the house on a weekend morning, with a full belly, posting on a dvd forum I'd say I'm doing alright. I'd hate to live in a lot of other countries where the cost of fuel would be the least of my worries.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see gas prices back to below two bucks a gallon, but why would the oil companies do that when they know we'll keep flocking to the pump at 3.50 a gallon?

The US should switch to metric to create unity worldwide; perhaps that would bring peace to the Middle East.

I suggest that you do a careful review of the Annual report of an oil company before making unfounded claims. Their profit is roughly SIXTEEN cents per gallon, while the US and State Governemnts make FIFTY cents per Gallon. I can hardly accuse the oil companies of gouging.

I'm not sure if I said anything about oil company gouging. And, I didn't claim anything but that we shouldn't be too concerned about gas prices while we are spending so much on frivolous things like dvds while millions around the world are a lot worse off.

AAA and other economic analysts have just announced we can expect $4.00 a gallon by early 2008.  We also need to expect a 25% raise in heating oil.  Prices are going up and some of us will have to cut back on our "frivolous" DVD's.

Here in The Netherlands the official price has now risen to 1.525 euros per liter. With the current exchange rate of $ 1.4522 to the euro, that's the equivalent of $ 8.38 a gallon (US liquid).

Soon we'll be comparing fuel prices to DVD players rather than DVDs!
