Still no luck yet diagnosing the problem.

Also, those who say LCD has no burn-in are simply wrong. Almost every time I play a video game now, I see remnants of the image in the screen afterwards. I usually have to turn my TV off for hours afterwards to get rid of it.

This entire process is beginning to frustate me. I love my HDTV, and I have a PS3 and HD-DVD player, as well as DirecTVHD, but this is beginning to be more trouble than it's worth, especially when nobody knows what's going on> Westinghouse had no clue, nobody's replied at AVS (typical), and the mods haven't eve n put my post up at HTF.

It disappears after hours that is NOT burn-in..  Burn-in is permanent.  May I suggest you get a higher quality TV as Westinghouse is the bottom of the LCD lines.

Numerous forums I've went to - ones that specialize in LCDs - list Westinghouse as a very good LCD.

I am not trying to be a jerk really, I am not.  I deal with TV's on a daily basis.  After black Friday we received many Westinghouses back.  I work at a place where the sales persons are not on commission and they do their best not to sell Westinghouse due to the return issues and the fact that they can and do have issues which really upset customers.  I had never heard of this issue when it was brought up but had heard of many others.  So before the name calling goes worse than calling me a Sith, I was simply commenting on the brand and what my experience with it has been.

Sounds like I consider myself lucky, Sith. I have a Worstinghouse 37", been running near 24 hours a day fo a year now and it works like a champ. What you say however, does not surprise me, I remember when Sharp couldn't make a quality VCR if their life depended on it, or Fisher.

But your sith mind tricks will still not work on me.

Almost looks as it the crystal is leaking from something putting pressure on the screen.  I had a LCD monitor have the same patterns that the user had the habit of pressint on the screen with a pencil eraser.

It's just me, my wife, and my dog here, though...no kids around, or anyone that would be around the TV when we weren't, guests included.

I was just joking about your name

Definitely don't want to start the name calling and turn this into the other threads of recent.

I firmly informed my oldest two (7 & 5) the night the I set our TV up, that the finger on the screen will not be tolerated like on the laptop they use for games.

But two day later I came home to a house full of kids playing our Wii and a dozen finger print sets all over the TV.....  now we have a no fly (walk) zone 3 feet in front of the set.

I am still so very scared every time we turn the Wii on

Also a little worried for when the baby start crawling and then walking......

Chilbul,

You may have already answered this and I missed it.  Did you contact Westinghouse to see what they had to say or did you purchase a plan to protect the TV when you bought it when you bought it.

Skip,
We know everything ALWAYS works at your house. LOL...

Ron,

Negative on Westinghouse - I've unfortunately found that from my experiences, dealing with manufacturers is never helpful. That's my absolute last step in the process.

As far as a plan, no, because the TV was purchased for me as a gift two months prior to my receiving it.

Have you called around to the big screen tv stores to see if any of them have a repair shop on their location and what they charge for an estimate?

Do stores like Best Buy do this sort of thing? I was under the impression they'd ship it off to the manufacturer.

Not sure that we have any smaller stores around here that I'd trust with it, honestly.

Places like Best Buy will diagnose, but send out for real repairs, but they will usually only repair things that they sold.

We have two places in Tucson that have their own personnel. One is the TV/DVD doctor.  They do good work but are very pricey it is almost cheaper to just buy a new one.  Honestly, I know you dread it, but I would call Westinghouse at this point.  One thing I will say about them their customer service is normally pretty friendly.

I will, after trying one thing...I found this on another forum:

Quote:
try wiping the screen (or softly massaging it) with a mnicrofibre cloth.

Some new sharp 64's have had a similar problem that went away when wiped down

Does that even make sense?

Chibul,

Honestly, the more I view the pics you put up the more it looks like the LCS have been damaged.  Possible broken because someone pushed on the screen too hard or the LCD itself burned itself out somehow.  Either way it really sucks and I am sorry.
