As W0m6at mentioned, we've had these in Australia for nearly 10 years now.
A number of different chains do them, some better than others. The worst is where they've simply blocked off the back row of the normal cinema, and put recliner chairs in, so you still have the the 'rabble' in front of you.
Then, Village are at the other end, with their 'Gold Class' cinema experience .. with ticket prices from $18AUD up to $35 (depending on the time ... 11am Monday morning for some reason is always cheap .. go figure!)
All cinemas that offer Gold Class have it in a limited number of theatres, for instance here in Adelaide they have 30 odd standard theatres, and 5 Gold Class. The Gold Class then seat 30 people in pairs. You can hire it our and choose your own movie if you like as well.
Positives;
- Small number of people
- Very nice comfortable seats
- Good for special occasions, and gifts
- Can drink alcohol
- No-one under 18
- Hot food

Organise a replacement drink to be delivered every 15 mnutes Negatives;
- Expensive
- Food expensive
- Can't cuddle, as chairs are about a foot apart
- Oh, and did I mention ... Expensive ... [/li]
Price breakdown...
- 2 tickets - $70
- Food (cheese platter, nachos) - $30
- Couple of soft drinks - $10
- A 'few' non-soft drinks - $40
- 'pricey'
So really anywhere from $100 to $150 for a couple ... good for those really big movies you want to see as soon as they are released, but not every time you go to the cinemas. We go maybe 2-3 times a year ... more because the other half wants to though
