Yes, I've seen all the Beowulf movies mentioned. I even own the recent Beowulf and Beowulf & Grendel. The film is definitely solid sci-fi, not fantasy/myth/historic.

I also own Enemy Mine, so it's not that either. Within the Rock is somewhat similar in the basic plot, but this is another one that I own on VHS. Also there was no monster or anything, just a ruthless tyrant and his oppression of the people.

Battlefield Earth, ugh no! The film in question was bad, but not that bad!
