The FINAL woird lies with each user according to that users own parameters. Some users find the online Genre asa good starting place to work from and YOU(generic) think you have the right and privilege to deny them access to that information. WOW, truly clueless as a GROUP.

If they bug you that much, you're probably changing them in your local database anyway, so why do you care if there's data already there or not. And if you're like me and don't care so much, it's nice to have them already filled out.
And while we could all post some insane examples, I think those are really the exceptions. In most cases, they're usually fairly good.

This kind of opinion annoys me and seems to be held my many users. It takes a couple of seconds to change your genres when you download a profile. I do it with practically all of mine as I rarely agree with other people's interpretation of genre.
Subsequently if this field was kept locally ONLY then it wouldn't take long to input your preference.
I recently went through my entire 4,000+ collection in a couple of hours changing genres...so how hard can it be.
I don't think genres add anything to the online db and just cause useless debates (like this one). Using the same argument, why don't you continue to change your local genres to suit your preferences and let the rest of us exchange genres through the online db? | | | ...James

I NEVER submit a change to genres to the online db. I was simply giving an apposing viewpoint to this discussion. Which is my right and preroagative I think?! |

| | Posted: | | | | I can't say I can recall finding a genre that was blatantly incorrect. The ONLY "changes" i used to submit to Genre were to fill the slots, where it made sense.

| | Posted: | | | | I agree with the people who want the subject of genres be left as the status quo. While I don't always agree with them, at least for unfamiliar titles I have some idea what sort of program is on a DVD that I MIGHT be interested in viewing or acquiring.
I agree that it's a nuisance when people make unnecessary (to me, anyway) changes to genres, but that's what the lock function is for anyway.
Often I'll look at the "Upcoming Releases" when I'm in a mood to add to my wishlist. I may look at a title just because of the genre. I'd prefer that the genre be one I agree with, but I'll take whatever the original contributor used as it's better than a blank field. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole)
