Commentary tracks always use the film soundtrack in the background, and as this is always Surround, the commentary track is also surround cheers Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |

| Posted: | | | | I have actually heard a good number of mono commentary tracks, even if the movie was stereo. Commentary tracks are usually encoded surround, but not always. |

No, they don't. Then which soundtrack do they use in the background, the soundtrack of a Manchester vs Liverpool game ? cheers Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com | | | Last edited: by DarklyNoon |

Commentary tracks are usually encoded surround, but not always. Given the fact that most commentary tracks are coded in Surround and only rare examples are in 2-channel mono (1-chan mono is easily distinguishable from surround), and given the fact that there is no program available that can tell you for sure if it is stereo/surround/2chan-mono, what is the logical thing to do here ? We have two options: 1. To enter everything as stereo or mono, which will lead to 99 % false data. 2. To enter everything as surround, which will lead to 1% of false data. I surely will go with option 2. cheers Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |

| Posted: | | | | And where do you get 99 vs 1%. Have you counted? Unless you can provide an accurate method of verification in your notes, just leave the existing info alone for someone else with the proper equipment to verify.
Anything else is just guessing. |

| Posted: | | | | Sorry, but we can't base contributions on personal guesswork and statistics, only facts will do. I already have a problem with the blu-ray of Falling Down. Surround is not even an option for True HD, only 2-channel stereo. I guess that should tell me something... | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

cheers Donnie Dude, I am the one asking you for proof before changing existing data. You want to change things without proper documentation, then send nasty PMs when I vote no. | | | Last edited: by bob9000 |

Even IF they use the film soundtrack as a background, this says nothing on how it got mixed in. The commentor might just as will sit in a booth with a single microphone and watch the movie on a simple TV set. Pray tell how would there be anything more than "mono" possible? And no, I'm not saying that it is so, You want to change existing data, You have to bring the proof. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |
