Been a long time since I saw The Ninth Gate.. but remember it being pretty much horror... dealing with the devil and such... if I remember right... so of course it counts. Then again the way I feel about it... if it is something you enjoy for this holiday... then it counts.

A Nightmare on Elm Street
From modern horror master Wes Craven ('Scream', 'Scream 2') comes a timeless shocker that remains the standard bearer for terror.

Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) is having grisly nightmares. Something monstrous wants to kill her. Meanwhile, her high-school friends, who are having the very same dream, are being slaughtered in their sleep by the hideous fiend of their shared nightmare. When the police ignore her explanation, she herself must confront the killer in his shadowy realm.

Featuring John Saxon ('Enter The Dragon') and Johnny Depp in his first starring role and mind-bending special effects, this horror classic gave birth to one of the most infamous undead villains in cinematic history. Reportedly naming Freddy Krueger after a kid who had bullied him in school, writer-director Craven hatches a shock-fest from hell that "goes straight to the heart of terror" ('Seattle Times').

My Thoughts:
Every since I first saw this movie (24 years ago!) it has been one of my all time favorite horror movies. I remember being a 15 year olf kid... this movie scaring the crap out of me. And loving every second of it. Of course the movie don't scare me any longer... but I still love it.  Since buying this dvd (The Nightmare on Elm Street Complete Collection of course) back in 1999 I must have watched this movie at least a dozen times. It is one I seem to never get tired of.

Well then I'll be adding more to my little list this month too since there are a lot I like to watch around Halloween that aren't exactly horror..like Practical Magic.

Campfire Tales
Horror takes a detour deep into the woods in this terrifying cross between 'Scream' and 'Tales From The Crypt', starring Christine Taylor ('Dodgeball') and Ron Livingston ('Office Space').

Returning home from a concert and driving recklessly, four teenagers crash their car on a deserted road. To ward off the cold, they build a fire and wait for help. But the hair-raising stories they tell around the fire put a deeper chill into the night. Each tale is more lurid, more horrifying, more shocking than anything they've heard before. Yet for these unlucky teens in the woods, the biggest shock is still to come...

My Thoughts:
This is another one I never seen before. Basically just bought it because I really like Anthology horrors... and this one sounded interesting. And I am so happy that I did! I think this movie will rank up there with my top favorite anthology horrors! Not only was all 3 stories suspenseful with great atmosphere... the wrap around story (where anthologies usually loose me) was a really good story in it's own right. I also liked the fact that Glenn Quinn (Roseanne, Angel) was in the last story of the movie. The only thing that I could consider a downfall in this movie would have to be the fact that the first 2 stories are tellings of very well known urban legends... so you fairly quickly know what to expect. But the thing is... these stories are done so well you still enjoy every minute of it. This very well could be my favorite movie of this year's marathon. It will be tough to beat anyway!

The Lost Boys
Sam and his older brother Michael are all-American teens with all-American interests. But after they move with their mother to peaceful Santa Carla, California, things mysteriously begin to change. Michael's not himself lately. And Mom's not going to like what he's turning into.

My Thoughts:
Definitely one of my favorite Vampire movies... one I have seen countless times that I never tire of. This movie is the first thing I ever seen Keifer Sutherland in... and I think he did an awesome job in it. I also think Jason Patric did a great job as Michael. and I definitely couldn't help but to enjoy the Old Fart (Grandpa)... I just get such a kick out of him and all the stuffed animals he gave to Sam. Definitely one I would highly recommend to any horror fan... especially vampire fans. Though I do believe most all horror fans probably seen this one by now!

Lost Boys: The Tribe
Risking everything in search of the ultimate rush is fun when you know you can't die. 'Angus Sutherland', taking up where brother Kiefer left off in the original cult favorite, is the lead vampire in this modern reimagining of 'The Lost Boys'. The seaside village of Luna Bay is rife with outcasts and plagued by an outbreak of missing persons. As the sun sets, the Tribe rises: a group of adrenalin-fueled, thrill-crazed vampires tears up the surf and the streets with nonstop action. But when a champion surfer ('Tad Hilgenbrinck') and his sister ('Autumn Reeser') move in, dark secrets erupt into hot-blooded passions and full-blooded fear. Helping fight the forces of hell: 'Corey Feldman' in his signature role of vampire hunter Edgar Frog. Once you join the Tribe, there's no turning back.

My Thoughts:
I have heard nothing but terrible things about this movie... but I loved the first one so much that I had to see this one for myself. So I went into this movie hoping to like it... but expecting to hate it.And maybe this attitude going into it is what helped me... because I enjoyed this movie. No... it is not nearly as good as the first one... but it is a decent vampire movie. I was worried when I bought this movie... but at least I am not sorry I got it.

The Haunting (1963)
"It was an evil house from the beginning, a house that was born bad." The place is the 90-year-old mansion called Hill House. No one lives there. Or so it seems. But please do come in. Because even if you don't believe in ghosts, there's no denying the terror of "The Haunting."

Robert Wise returned to psychological horror for this much admired, first screen adaptation of Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House." Four people come to the house to study its supernatural phenomena. Or has the house drawn at least one of them to it? The answer will unnerve you in this "elegantly sinister scare movie. It's good fun" (Pauline Kael, "5001 Nights at the Movies").

My Thoughts:
After watching... and enjoying the remake I thought it was about time to check out the original. I did enjoy this one... though for some reason I was expecting a little more from it. It is a good story... if not a little long. Especially considering how old the movie is. It seemed to move along a little slow for my taste... but not so slow that it bothered me much. It is good enough that I am glad I added it to my collection.

Reincarnation
From the director of 'The Grudge' and 'The Grudge 2' comes an eerie tale of a hotel with a terrifying history. Thirty-five years after the slaughter, a film director returns to the scene of a mass murder to recreate the gruesome killings on film. As he and his crew step into the now abandoned hotel, the cast members begin to see creepy visions and nightmares. When shooting commences, the cast members begin to suffer very familiar fates - the exact fates they are to act out in the film!

My Thoughts:
This is my very first taste of actual Japanese Horror (Before now just had the American remakes to go by). The main reason I been hesitant is the fact that I do not like subtitles... I am too slow of a reader to be able to enjoy a movie that I must read. But after seeing a lot of knowledgeable friends talk so much about how great some of these foreign horror movies are I had to finally see for myself. Unfortunately I may not have gotten the best Japanese horror to start out with... as this movie was a bit confusing and on the weird side. But I have to admit... the atmosphere of this movie is remarkable. This movie had the kind of atmosphere that Hollywood movies has seemed to of forgotten many years ago! I actually felt a few decent chills from a horror movie... something I haven't felt from horror in quite a while!

Even though the movie itself could have been better.. and having to pause and rewind a little several times in the movie to see what was said... I definitely see I need to add more foreign horror into my collection! With any luck I will get used to subtitles with time... and hopefully learn to read a bit faster as well.

The Mist
FROM LEGENDARY FRIGHTMASTER STEPHEN KING and Academy Award® nominated director Frank Darabont ('The Shawshank Redemption', 'The Green Mile') comes one of the most tense and terrifying films since 'The Shining'. After a mysterious mist envelops a small New England town, a group of locals trapped in a supermarket must battle a siege of otherworldly creatures...and the fears that threaten to tear them apart. Starring Thomas Jane ('The Punisher') and Oscar® winner Marcia Gay Harden ('Mystic River') in one of the year's most talked-about performances, 'The Mist' "is not only one of the best movies of 2007, it's one of the best horror movies ever made. Period." (Maryann Johanson, 'The Flick Filosopher')

My Thoughts:
This was a blind buy for me... but one I wasn't worried about placing in the least since I am such a big fan of Stephen King movies. But I must say... this movie was even better then I was expecting... and my expectations was pretty high! The suspense was great and the effects was well done. I really enjoyed every minute of this movie! I seldomly ever give a full 5 point rating when I review movies.. as I do believe there is always room for improvement... and I stuck by this here... but this is the closest I have gotten to wanting to give a full 5 point rating since I started my marathon!

Hey there Addicted2DVD,

Think your idea is awesome, just wish I had the time to do it. Bloody women and kids!

I bet this starts a trend, I can see action, thriller ect marathons now!

As for your horror marathon, This was a very good straight to DVD I watched the other day.

If you like the likes of Evil dead triology and that old school comedy horror, this will be right down your street and has the legend that is Robert 'Freddy' Englund in it!

My rating 4.5/5
Is it me? Or is Wilma Flintstone the most desirable women in the world?

Thanks for the recommendation... will have to put it on my list.

I do marathons all the time... usually each weekend through-out the year... and of course my month long horror one every October. I been doing it for years. I just don't usually post about them here... usually post about them at DVD Collectors Online. A great forum that a lot of members here also belong to.

Heroes of Horror: A&E Biography - Vincent Price: The Versatile Villain
An aristocratic bearing and a distinctive voice helped Vincent Price cultivate an air of sophistication and mystery. These traits made him a standout performer in 'The Fly', 'The Pit and the Pendulum', 'The Abominable Dr. Phibes' and dozens of other acclaimed films that fueled a career that spanned six decades.

My Thoughts:
This is an interesting documentary on the life of Vincent Price. I have became a huge fan of his work in horror movies... but I had no idea he was involved in so much more then horror! I definitely enjoyed taking a behind the scenes look at my favorite classic horror star.

My Rating:
