| | Posted: | | | | I think it is safe to say that those who pull the Star Trek strings (Paramount) decided that JJ Abrams' fresh new take on the franchise would revitalize what was clearly becoming a stale franchise!!! The last movie was a bomb and the most recent television series, Star Trek: Enterprise (which I enjoyed somewhat) was a ratings disaster!!!

As much as I'd like to see further TNG/DS9/Voyager era films, as the new movie has damaged the timeline with the destruction of Vulcan, events as we know them may have happened very differently if at all. So at this time, I'm not sure how a Voyager film could be made. In the Voyager timeline only romulus was destroyed. |

What do you base that on? From everything that was shown in the film, it's all set in the "primary" universe. Therefore the way I see it, it's like "First Contact" where they see Earth transform into a Borg Planet. The only way to go back to how things were would be to stop the Romulans from destroying Vulcan/Killing Kirk's father/etc... . Personally, I never watch any stuff like MTV clips, or any other movie review show, nor do I read any of the press. No problem for me, since I already saw the movie a month ago. But what may seem irrelevant plot info to you, may have another impact on someone elses movie experience. Why would I use spoiler tags for something that everybody already knows from the MTV clips and such? It's not that I'm giving away the story or something. I can think of two reasons. First, this isn't something that everybody knows as everbody doesn't watch MTV clips and such. Some people avoid them like the plague so that they don't have parts of the movie spoiled for them. This is the first I have ever heard of an 'alternate timeline' so my perception of the movie is now changed.
