| Posted: | | | | Hey Jimmy S,
I'm curious. I always thought that the studios, artists and everybody else got revenues from all those things: physical DVD purchase, theater, legal streaming and legal download. For me, what I do has more to do with convenience and mood than cost. But I never thought that by doing one or the other - that I was hurting the industry.
Am I wrong or naive on that? | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. |

| Posted: | | | | The labels got almost nothing from the streaming as it was the case when Netflix was renting physical DVD by mail. The only time they will see an honest ammount is when the contract is with an honest company (sadly very few are...). Also it's important to know that I talk about small indy labels. I know no one at Hollywood | | | Last edited: by Jimmy S |

| Posted: | | | | I think all the Hollywood Video stores are closed (bankrupt?) but I still have a couple Blockbusters near me (but some have closed too).
Netflix has put a dent into Blockbuster but I believe Redbox (and the like) is what's really hurting their business. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Jimmy S: Quote: Not me, I don't watch streaming video (I don't even download the digital copy when I've a code for it). I don't buy as much as would like too, but I buy everything I watch (no renting, no theatre and no download for me).
Supporting the labels is more important for me than saving a couple of bucks, anyway I'm friend with many label owners and I'm always there to help a friend when he need me.
Not me I always download the digital copy if it is included, we use Media Center with the Xbox 360's in the house so any TV can playback the digital copy. Plus we started renting a lot of digital copies from Amazon, with some of their specials for 99cents for 24 hour rental gives me a chance to view the movie before I decide if I really want to buy it. We also, do a lot of streaming of Movies and TV from Netflix on the TV. The only digital copies I don’t use right now are UltraViolet the quality is bad and isn’t widely supported by a number of digital devices. Purchasing movies has cut down some as there have been a lot of movies I wouldn’t say they were stinkers but, the replay appeal just doesn’t seem to be what it used to be. Most of my purchases have been classics it seems lately. <On topic> hope all is well with Skip | | | Are you local? Did a cable on-demand movie for my son once when he was sick, and streamed 1 free show from Amazon for myself, but have $7 or so credit there for over a year and no plans to use it. I don't think a $7.00 credit will still be there a year later.. there are time limits ... | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | Sounds like all the major rental stores just died very quickly in North America. Here in Scotland most of all the smaller rental stores did die out by around the mid 00's.
Leaving only Blockbuster, which still has many stores around Scotland and the other British country's.
So there business is not dead yet in this part of the world. Still can't see it lasting till the end of the decade though. |

Here in St. Louis Missouri, Blockbuster is still around, although a number large retail/rental stores have closed, they have been replaced by Blockbuster Express, a competition to Redbox. WE do have Family Video, that has a number of locations. I am like Martian, I do not rent movies, although have made a number of purchases of movies from them (previously Viewed). |

While the number of logged in users in the picture only refers to the Gerneral Discussion sub-forum, traffic seems to have slowed down here quite a bit. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

Then there's a Hastings store, which stocks far more rentals than either of those. | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | On topic, I agree with Kathy and Kulju.
I've had my fair share of horrible run-ins with Skip. But, also more than enough very pleasant encounters too. I don't miss his presence in this forum, but I sincerely hope he is doing great in his private life...after all, it's our private lives that are important - not this forum.
Hope you're ok, Skip. | | | Last edited: by Pantheon |

Forums have slowed down because: A) Skip has left the building B) People has learned that Invelos partisipation at forums is non existing. They have learned that their questions get no response from invelos. No comments for rules questions, feature requestions, program developement state, no presence at rules commitee etc. Rules wont get updated, program developement is really slow, website developement non existing etc. etc. So why hang out here? This is after all a forum about DVDP, though there are general side forums too, but if one is interested about movies and DVDs/Blu-Rays in general there are much better forums for that. |

Here in the Louisville, KY area, we still have at least one Blockbuster (possibly five) that's still open (I know of one, the rest are in parts of town I'm never in), and one local video rental shop, Wild and Woolly Video. We also have lots of Redbox. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield |
