| Posted: | | | | Quoting Srehtims: Quote: I'm not a big anime collector but from my limited collection: Best: Twelve Kingdoms Noir: The Complete Collection Neon Genesis Evangelion
Worst: A lot of DVDs I'v not seen, but these aren't the best although I have some of them. Ocean's 11, 12, 13: I think George and the boys wanted an easy payday; The Mummy Returns
Most Needed: Akira Grave of the Fireflies Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Miyazaki Collection: - Castle in the Sky, - Kiki's Delivery Service, - Spirited Away Thanks for taking a look at my collection! The fact that you've actually seen Twelve Kingdoms, regarless of how much anime you have, is awesome in my book! Noir and NGE are also some of my favorites. Although I really did like Ocean's 11 and 13, many people didn't, and I can respect that. I can't argue at all about Mummy Returns though... Got the franchise set for $10 but didn't enjoy any of the movies in it really. As for most needed, Akira...I know I am alone here...but I didn't like that movie very much. Supposed to be a classic and all, but it was very "meh" to me. (ducks for cover) Grave of the Fireflies is one I've heard a lot about and I will look into it, but infortunately with Central Park Media going out of business, this title will be a collector's item soon enough. Although I've heard that it might have been picked up by another company, not sure about that. As for Gundam, never watched any of it. If you'd suggest me starting with Zeta, I'd take you up on that. Miyazaki films are always very enjoyable, by far my favorite, and any animation fan should see (not just anime) is Spirited Away. I do own that one, but am working on getting the other Miyazaki films down the road. I would do a Best, Worst, Most Needed for yourself, but you have your collection hidden. So I'll just recommend one anime that if you don't have I'd recommend looking into. Rahxephon - Compared to NGE quite a bit, but at the same time very unique. I just rewatched this last month and was blown away once again on how good this series is. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good sci-fi with a touch of romance. | | | "The perfect is the enemy of the good." - Voltaire |

Sorry about online db blocked. I had trouble on the lines. A problem that had been getting worse and finally bad enough they could find it. Lot of noise. The line kept dropping out. Uploading the db kept timing out. I had the telephone people out yesterday and they found a problem in the junction box across the street. My online db should available now. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. Can you elaborate on that for me? ...and since this is the most easily derailed thread ever Can somebody please assess Srehtims' collection? | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

...and since this is the most easily derailed thread ever Can somebody please assess Srehtims' collection? I also didn't care for Ghost in the Shell or Ninja Scroll. So we're on the same page there. As for NGE. There's only one version of the original show. There is a 26 episode series and then 2 movies were made as cappers to the series as many didn't like how the TV series ended. If releases are what you speak of, it's usually safe enough to buy the most recent release of it as they've made some audio/visual upgrades to it over the years. They have however started remaking the series in a 4-6 (can't remember) OVA series labeled 1.0, 2.0, etc. That is just a retelling with new animation. Haven't seen any of this yet but looks like it should be great. As for 12 Kingdoms ending poorly. It depends. It is based off of a series of novels. The anime series does a great job from start to finish of one story arc from the novels. This story arc is about 75% of the TV series. Somewhere in the middle of the series (in between parts of the other arc), they incorporate another story that never comes to a conclusion because the show got cancelled before they could get back to it. I personally never really cared about that middle arc anyway and was anxious for the story to return to the original story/characters. And this part ended great. I did pick up a couple of the translated books to continue the story because it really is a fascinating world. I'm sure at some point there is more to the characters from the show, but as for what you do see, it concludes very well. Edit: I plan on getting to both your's and Srehtim's collections sometime here...just been pretty busy doing other things and scanning through large collections does take time as quin71 said. | | | "The perfect is the enemy of the good." - Voltaire | | | Last edited: by Vittra |

| Posted: | | | | I reduced the online db to a more manageable size, (a paltry 4700 profiles). Removed US & UK TV series; TV child profiles, Music (pop, classic, opera, & jazz), Special Interest, Documentaries, Misc, Ordered & Wish lists. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. | Posted: | | | | Srehtims: Lots of stuff I've not seen/never heard of....mixed with lots of excellent stuff! Best: Australia (personally I think this is an excellent movie - moving, funny and visually spectacular) Blade Runner (the perfect sci-fi. Seen it over 600 times) Taken (the best mini-series ever IMO) Worst: April in Paris (love Doris Day, love musicals...thought this was boring pants) Below (not scary and not good) Black Hawk Down (an incoherent noisy mess) Most Needed: 30 Days of Night (the best vampire film for decades IMO) Powder (one of my top 5 films everyone should see - sci-fi/drama with a heart) Wolf's Rain (the first anime I ever watched and still the best I've ever seen). Good luck to whoever looks at my collection....easy to find lots of rubbish though!! |

THX for fighting through my DVD conglomeration. “Blade Runner” a triple dipper, I might even buy it in blu. When I first bought and saw it on laser I had to replay. I think it is very prophetic. “April in Paris” (part of TCM Doris Day collection) Let's face it, most musicals are hokey, boy meets girl, loves girl, girl hates boy and in the end they wind up singing a duet. But I have about 250 of them and 22 of them have Doris Day. Doris Day, what can I say, loved her for 60 years. Got have everything she in. “Below”, ha, couldn't even remember it, had to look it up and I still can't remember it. . Looking into 30 Days of Night, Powder & “Wolf's Rain”. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. Aube1DVD, It is pretty simple, provided the person above you has their DVD collection viewable online. You spend a little bit of time looking at their collection and then. List the 3 Best titles (in your opinion) that they own. List the 3 Worst titles that they own. List 3 titles that in your opinion (based on their collection) they need to get. does that answer your question? | | | CaptKiirk42 DVD Collection/ Also Klandersen at DVDAF DVDCrate Collection My Blog |

| Posted: | | | | Since Pantheon's collection isn't online, I'm going with Aube1DVD's collection: Best: Ducktales vol 1--I grew up on this cartoon, always made me laugh. I admit, freely, that I have the opening theme song on my iPod. Almost Famous--Just like this one. Wizard of Oz--this one caught my eye since I just preordered the 70th anniversary version, always a classic for me no matter how many times I've watched it! Worst: Sex in the City--never could get into this show. Turistas--not a horror fan, really, and this is one of the reasons. Dreamgirls--hated this even though I'm usually a musical fan...music itself was good but the movie dragged on and on and on... Need: Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat: While I said I don't like horror, I do like Bruce Campbell and his brand of horror...see you have Evil Dead, you may like Sundown which not only has Bruce, but David Carradine as well! Nightmare Before Christmas: Notice you don't have a lot of family/kids movies, but this one is a great blend of horror elements with humor. Like the music in this one, too! The Librarian: The Quest for the Spear. Okay, it's a made for TV movie, but it's good and it's funny. It has lots of action. You have Indiana Jones movies...this is kind of a quirky version of that. Except Flynn isn't quite as cool as Indy starting off. | | | Lori |

| Posted: | | | | Worst: 1.) Broken Arrow--I know...but I like the music and hey, it had Christian Slater in it! *grins* 2.) Live Free or Die Hard Full Screen Edition (Because it's a FULL Screen Edition)--Sorry...this was a blind buy for under 5 bucks...didn't have the WS available. I do try to get these WS now, but when I first started buying, I didn't know the difference between WS/FS! 3.) League of Extraordinary Gentlemen--Sean Connery. All I have to say. Best: 1.) Breakfast Club--One of my all time favorite scenes in this movie...when Bender is running down the hall trying to get attention. 2.) Grosse Pointe Blank--One of my favorites with both Cusaks. 3.) Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark--It is Indy. Loved these movies since I was a kid. We've gone through at least 2 copies of the VHS, plus I own it twice on DVD. Most Needed: 1.) Bill and Ted's bogus Adventure--Hmm, for me, I always liked the original more. This one was ok, and if I see it really cheap I'll pick it up, but generally not a fav for me. 2.) Bourne Ultimatum--I picked the first 2 up blind buy b/c they were cheap and I like action/adventure, but have to admit I haven't watched these yet. If I do see it somewhere, I'll pick it up though. 3.) Lord of the Rings Trilogy (This time in Widescreen)--hey, I'm starting! I did get Two Towers in WS(Big Lots sale)! Now just hunting for the other two in the same format... | | | Lori |

| Posted: | | | | At the request of Stephan and to help keep the thread going, I'll do his collection.
Best: Goonies-I watch this every year on Halloween, one of my top 10, I'd say. Sound of Music-Just watched this the other day and had forgotten what a nice, well put together musical this was (if a bit long). The Hunt For Red October-love this one...good actors, good action.
Worst: Billy Madison-Not a real fan of Adam Sandler. Think I've only watched one or two of his movies and actually liked them Chuck und Larry (Chuck and Larry) Hostel-yeah, not a horror fan at all.
Needed: Buffy the Vampire Slayer-the seasons (or the movie.) You have the one episode, but the rest are just as good! Drawn Together-tv show from Comedy Central. I see you have South Park and a few other comedies of that sort (Scary Movie, Queer Duck). Drawn Together is cruder and more abrasive than South Park, I don't even usually admit to liking it much less owning it, but man, I've never laughed as hard as I have for this show. The last season isn't the best, but the first two were very good. Finding Nemo/Bug's Life-couldn't pick between the two; they're both really good. If you liked the other Pixar films (you have Toy Story and Wall-E, it looks like), you'll enjoy these! | | | Lori |

Best: The Shawshank Redemption (One of my top 10 movies ever). Starship Troopers (I'm a big Verhoeven-fan, and this is one of his best IMO). Bram Stoker's Dracula (Masterpiece, and one of the few films I can watch with Keanu Reeves).
Worst: Coyote Ugly (Why Bruckheimer wanted to produce this crap, is beyond me). Cutthroat Island (I don't even know what to say). Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (This must be one of the most boring films I've ever seen - right up there with 2001: A Space Odyssey).
Must Have: Gremlins (An absolute must-have). The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Loved it - haven't bought it yet - must do so). Howard the Duck (This film is so bad, that it's good. One of my favourites while growing up, so definately need it). | | | Berak
