When they first got added, I discovered a little tip you might like. I posted it on Intervocative, but it was ages ago. I tag boxsets and then I can filter them out. All the child profiles are forced into the main list temporarily.

You can then get a proper alphabetical list of the contents. Especially handy because I have a few of those three movies in one boxsets, where the contents have little relation to each other (The Firm/The Rainmaker/Changing Lanes). Unfiltered, Rainmaker and Changing Lanes are hidden under The Firm. Filter out boxsets, The Firm appears under F; Rainmaker under R; and Changing Lanes under C.

I use a "NV" (Not Visible, especially for printing) tag for either Movie Box Set Parent Profiles and TV Series Child Profiles (with their parent being a virtual box set for the entire TV series).
That way, my reports show the single movies in the right alphabetical order (leaving out the box set, as JonM said), and also show one entry for each complete TV Series (not one for each Season).

- Audit

I use Audit tags too, with a number of Audit child tags as a checklist.

I tag.

In version 2.x,  I was able to filter based upon certain TAG criteria. I can't find this capability in version 3.1. Where is it hidden, what is it called? I looked in the help, but found no mention of it in (except  Edit Tag). It did not show up in Filter settings either.

I use it to keep track of owner (several family members), and to keep track of the location, and if it has been converted into iPod format.

At the top of the Filters windows you'll see all the categories you can filter under (General, Genre, Features etc.) and in the top right corner, two arrows.
Keep clicking on the arrows and more categories (including Tags) should appear.

Ah ha!

Found it! Thanks. Not that obvious.

I wish I could pu the tab filters on another tab/window, instead of with the Collection window.

You can drag and drop all the windows and create any layout you like - just remember to save it once you've got it looking the way you want it!

I use tags a lot also.  Recently, though, I screwed up my layout and now the tags section is auto-hiding on the left side of the window.  How do I get it out of auto-hiding on the left and put it back to a tab under a different pane?  I have had it there but can't figure out how to remove it from the side for the life of me!!!  I saved the layout a long time ago and apparently it was when tags was on the side because restoring it isn't helping.

Thanks in advance.  I am sure it's an easy fix.

Seems to be a quite old thread and I am not sure if this is still interesting for anybody? Bud as I did a huge mistake with my tags I want to let you know what else I use them for:

I use some to "combine" movies with similar contents like
- Gangs, Skinheads, Racism
- Based on computer games
- based on a true story
- Dragons
- Drugs
- Prison
- Parody
- Based on comics/mangas

Then to show remakes the easy way:
- Remake Movie -> Movie
- Remake Movie -> Series
- Remake Series -> Movie
- Remake Series -> Series

Some more to combine movies of
- Stephen
or with
- Bud Spencer and/or Terence Hill

and the most ones I use to have a better overview on my quite huge wrestling collection, using tags for continents and the countries and the name of all the companies (so often not listed in the DVD-title).
and as a sub-tag for the wrestling stuff I got another one to set on movies/series with the appearance of wrestlers/mma fighters

As I also collect the soundtracks to go with my collection, I have Tags as to if I have the soundtrack, and if is OST or Score.
Also have an HD under a BluRay tag that tells if the 4k has DV.
TV series and if completed.

Plus others.
