The claim was rejected by the insurance company - They claimed "Misrepresentation and Fraud" as the reason and I have sent this on to the Ombudsman for short term insurance.

As to Hagley and Gimli, both cats seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth and I suspect that the girl who WAS sharing with me (she has since been kicked out because of the cats AND then the burglary occured 2 days before she was due to move out and I think she was involved!) killed them. She had apparently tried to get rid of both Shakira and Merry-Li in the past but they both came back. I suspect she also tried to get rid of a kitten I got after Merry-Li died but am not totally sure. Gimli was too small to have got out on his own -he was between 9 and 12 weeks old and could not have climbed/jumped the wall out of my property.
I have since got another kitty which is around 9-12 months old. Her name is Tabitha and she is a mixed breed (tortoiseshell and grey tabby by the looks of her). She has been with me now for 5 weeks and is happily settled. I will change my avatar in the next few days once I have a good picture of her!

OMG, I can hardly believe that somebody is able to do that. I feel very sorry!

I agree with your comment about her being evil. I just cannot believe all I have been hearing about what she has been doing to the cats. When she moved in I had bith Merry-Li and Shakira so she knew from the start there were cats in the house. I cannot think what possesed her to do all that she has done!

Thanks Kathy.     She is wonderful. Very friendly and seems to love kids, which Sharkira definitely did not! (Not that I have kids, mid you! )

I have to agree with Cathy's assessment, this individual is truly evil and demented to do such a thing. I am also sorry for Insurance claim denial, I hate insurance companies,you pay through the nose for coverage and then they find anything they can to deny your claim. I'm glad you found a new kitten to share your love and time with.

Dear Caroline,

Your story reads like a horror film. Not even the worst predators in the animal kingdom kill for pleasure, only mankind is able to do that.    I feel really, really sorry for everything this, ahem, "person" has been putting you through.

I sincerely hope there is still some justice in South Africa and, perhaps even more important, that you will be able to put all this misery behind you real soon. In any case: great that Tabitha has settled in so well - I hope that'll give you some comfort in these hard times. (In my experience, cats are very good judges of character!  ).

As far as insurance companies go: I've always considered banks and insurance companies to be the biggest swindlers harboured by our societies. "Misrepresentation and fraud"? How dare they? If anyone can be accused of that, it's THEM! (bank crisis, anyone?)
