Rick,

Don't feel bad. Three of my posts received single red arrows as well. I figured it was you or Martin and ignored them.

Dan,

Feel free to handle arrows however you like!

What bothers me is public statements like yours:

Quote:
The fact that you find it to be humorous makes me wonder if this is how you treat the women in your life.

When I show distaste, for your unfair remarks, earns me now 3 red arrows! I believe your statement was intentionally hurtful, and I am dismayed that you have supporters, in that they give arrows to me.

Sadly the arrow system IMO seems to make this place worse, some folks choose not to join discussions due to the mud slinging, some avoid conversations until it becomes to personal, and are compelled to join in. IMO this is not a very friendly place, when insinuations (re treatment of women, etc.) can be brought forth, from stupid comedic sketches. My comments here will surely gather red arrows aplenty, so be it.  I'll view it as a sign to search for friendlier climate.

If all three red arrows are on the same post, then it means that Ken should review them and I sincerely hope he reverses every single one of them.
At the minute people are hiding behing anonymous red arrows, and know this means they can avoid justifying their actions.

And you're right - this is a seriously unfriendly place.
I'm sorely tempted at the minute to just up-sticks and go. This is meant to be a hobby, and enjoyable past time, but some users with their hateful posts, have made this a place I don't look forward to visiting anymore.

Right back at you Rico,

Calling people "unenlightened" as your did in another thread is quite an insult as well. Furthermore handing out green arrows to people throwing around insults is another strike against you. Then there is your constant complaining about people's remarks when they respond in kind to your attacks. I have received a handful of red arrows as well so this is a two way street whether you want to admit or not.

Northbloke,

You have no right not be challenged in your positions or beliefs (or to not be offended on occasion). I haven't seen any posts that I thought were "hateful" -- there were some pretty serious shots taken by both sides but no hate. Hate is what's behind it when people commit violence or advocate it (or the like) that hasn't happened here and your elevating of the disagreements here to that level does no one any good. You have referred to people who disagree with you as "ignorant" which is seriously unfriendly in itself.

I'm sure you are quite confident in your own righteousness that any affronts you (or your allies) have committed were justified in your mind. The old expression "don't throw stones if you live in a glass house" comes to mind.

One good way to correct this situation (the vote negative or positive on oppinion) would be to write a justification just like we do with our vote on the submitted contribution. The best way would be to remove the anonimity (??) of the arrow giver, but I can understand why the system is like this.

Rick

The fact is, your public defense of these despicable videos as humor does make me wonder how you treat others in your life. How else could you see that as, I think you said, "hilarious"? I happen to have received green arrows for that post along with your red one. It seems to me that I'm not alone in my wonderment.

You claim that my words were intentionally hurtful and say that I have "supporters" as though, those who gave you red arrows weren't free thinkers. You really should stop and consider the possibility that your defense of these hideous depictions might actually be offensive to others than just myself. But, apparently, you would rather blame me for their actions. I, on the other hand, believe that freethinking individuals read this forum and three of them agree with my post.

This forum hasn't changed in the years I have been visiting here, Rick. You joined after I did but if memory serves, you were a member of the original forum (the green one with a black background), maybe that was the second, right now, I can't remember. What was that, four years ago? You were one of the guys Skip and I asked to offer an opinion on the first set of rules we wrote so, you know a lot about the "mudslinging" around here and you have you have to admit, you have thrown your fair share of it. To take the roll of the victim on this is one of your typical strategies, Rick. I have seen it before. It is also disingenuous.

Here is a quote from Ken in the "Honest Proposal" thread.

FYI, we're liberal in our allowance of topics in the general discussion forum and are similarly liberal in our allowance of feedback.  Let the poster to a heated political discussion beware.
Now, I could be wrong but Ken seems to be saying that unless something blatantly violates rating arrow rules, the arrows will stand. I guess we won't know for certain until/unless a change is made.

You've attributed to me something I did not say. I've said there is a smidgen small amount of humor in it, then tried to describe why it was an attempt at humor. So you finally understand, I don't find it funny, for comedic value 1 - 10 scale, maybe a 1 or 2 max. I do not find them to be 'despicable' like you do.

Regardless the fact you would write this without knowing me, shows your character.

Hmmm, you're right, it was Snark who used the word Hilarious, not you. You still vehemently defend your position that it was "humorous". I wonder, how "humorous" would it be if it were a woman you knew? See, there you go again, you got me wondering ....... again. I can live with whatever it is that you feel towards my character for communicating that directly to you and others in this thread. Of course, the fact that you find these videos humorous is very telling about yours.

P.S.
I just checked and it seems I had you confused with another Rick. Apparently, you joined this forum about a year ago but your writing style is very similar to his. I apologize for the confusion.

Quite correct, Dan. But then again situational ethics and failure to understand the concept of intellectual honsety are both items of the left side of the aisle. Case in point, the democrats have tried to make Americans believe that they side with NOW relative to women;s rights and ability to advance...but that ONLY applies if it is Democrat woman, Sarah Palin has been the subject of nothing but slander from the left since her nomination, including a rather disgusting internet ad involving children. NOW has even referred to Sarah as more a man than a woman...this from the ONE organization above all others who should at the very least be celebrating her nomination, even if they must disagree with her political philosophy, but instead they personally insult her.

If the Democrats had to try and run their campaign in this forum, with all of their various personal attacks and insulting remarks, they would have banned LONG ago.

Dan - seems like your confused again:

Wrong! I have  defended that I said, "It's a smidgen funny & attempted to explain the humor"

I can't help but notice you did not express the same concerns for others who liked the vid's more than myself. Hmmm Perhaps you had long festering grudge, against the other person & mistakenly aimed your hurtful comments at me, because of your confusion.

I tend to think some here are more intent on defending there candidate ergo the non-tolerance & strident opinions. Do some of you have the same views (depicting brutality etc) as seen on perhaps 'Monty Python' etc.???  If your being honest, then you should have as much contempt for MP as you do the vid's in this thread.

Rick

The difference is that there is a double standard.  Those on the left think its fine and dandy to say and show such things about convervatives, but god help any Republican who dares to do the same thing about a Democrat or liberal.  We get torn apart by the media and the left wing partisans.

I don't find this to be a source of amusement.  We are not playing games here.

This place is incredible. I express an opinion about the posted video and get a red arrow? This takes the cake.

That's why I post very rarely in those politic topic. The fuse is really short on those subject, whatever we say it's almost certain that someone will not agree and not agreing here means a red arrow.

It is very difficult to carry on an adult conversation with someone when they try to demonize you for your beliefs.  The Democrats in the US have used that as their standard modus operandi for so long, many of them don't even realize they do it anymore.  I make no bones about the fact that I don't like Obama or his politics, but I try to at least argue on the merits of his case.  Too bad others can't seem to do likewise.
