For insurance purposes, statements should always be based on the actual price paid. That is the true value of the goods you own. So, using the SRP for insurance purposes is bad.

Well on most insurance policies that I'm aware of the true value is the cost to replace, not the cost you paid... there are plenty of mis-prices, bargains that will never be repeated and foreign titles bought when the exchange rate was much better that I have and would never be able to reproduce if I had to replace on a "new for old" policy.

I'm pretty sure that in practice you would (at least here) state what the SRP total was and then the insurance company would counter-offer what they felt was reasonable value to replace given the present market... I certainly wouldn't be starting off on the basis of what I paid, given that to repeat that price, if possible at all, I'd probably have to wait 6 month - a year for each of 1500 titles to hit a suitable sale!

I didn't consider the use of this statistic for insurance purposes. Even so, even on the release-date the SRP is usually (a lot) higher than the price you pay (and the replacement value). Just browse Amazon.co.uk and look at the pre-orders. Even before the release-date you can buy them with 30 or 40% discount!

Out of curiosity I just used the Charts & Graphs feature in DVDP to view the statistics for this year.

2009: Total SRP € 2.871,73. Price paid: € 869,49. SRP therefore more than 3 times the price paid!!!
(Almost all purchased Play.com / Amazon.co.uk. The rest in local shops like FreeRecordShop)

And no, that's not what I usually spend on DVD's in 2 monthes. My girlfriend would kill me

I agree with you that the important value for insurance purposes is the price to replace the lost goods.
I just think that the SRP is not even close to the replacement value. The price I paid is a lot closer. Sure, DVDs bought at bargain prices may on occasion be more expensive. This however is probably outweighed by all the titles that have gotten a lot cheaper since you bought them.

I am wondring what the most of you do not care to contribute by submitting or updating a profile.
That means the one thing that you could live without

What I personally do not care about at all:

-  Media Type
-  DVD Title
-  Sort Title
-  Edition
-  Region
-  Production Year
-  Release Date
-  Case Type
-  Slip Cover
-  SRP/Currency
-  Video Formats
-  Genres
-  Features
-  Disc Description
-  Dual Layer check
-  Box Set Contents

If that's serious then I'm not sure that you really need DVDP. However, to each his own.

This chit-chat topic-poll leads to nothing regarding contribution quality and correctness, or tips, so, as you said, to each his own.

Original Title
Running Time, to the millisecond (the way we currently do it  )
Anything more than basic crew

Cover scans: re-releases,  slip cover editions, etc., etc.. It's almost irrelevant.
If we had a way to submit originals and subsequent covers, and accept the version that
matches your purchase when adding, THAT would be a nice feature!
