| Posted: | | | | So if you find it hideous, we should accept your cosmetic preference, despite there were a number of users that wanted it and that is why it found its way into the rules. And further Cosmetics had nothing to do with it, surfeur, it IS the data. Perhaps you don't understand what it might have to do with the data, since you think you should be able to fix typos. IF the hard data IS Italicized...so be it. As I said perhaps you don't understand the premise of what the data IS, or don't want to and want to impose your "cosmetic preference" on the Online...but then we already know that don't we. The data is what it is, if it's bold it uis bold, the only reason we don't do the color type is because we were afraid that some users would get into battles over exactly what shade of red, blue or whatever was being used. You are simply arguing for your cosmetic preference, when the data actual;ly says something entirely different. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | All you have to do is follow the DATA, not what you want. You continue to argue for the days of the Guidelines, we've been there, done that and we aren't going back,. I am not interested in what YOU think the someone's name is or their Role, ONLY what the data actually says. I remeber the wreck of an Online users had this program, as they fought over whether something was typo or not or what the Role was or the Name or My Overview is better than yours, NO thank you.
Anarchy is not the way for an Online databse to function. No free-for-all data entry.

You call it 'cosmetic preferences', other people call it 'replicating the data'. Who's opinion is correct? Ken seems to have agreed with them as he added it to the rules. Quote: If rules were cleared of all that useless stuff, they would be shorter, simplier, and people would focus better on important things. Useless is a very subjective word. What you find useless, other people find useful. Again, Ken seemed to agree that it was useful as he added it to the program and the rules. As I said, I didn't care one way or the other as long as we got rid of the single quotes. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Skip I believe surfeur is referring to this: Quoting Ken Cole:Quote: I do not, however, share the sentiment of doom & gloom that some have indicated. The facts are that our total number of contributions per week continues to rise. Also, the quality of said contributions is higher than at any point in DVD Profiler's history, measured by any objective standard.

That is what I call "cosmetic preferences". They should not be in the rules. The program allows everybody to put them if desired, that's great, but it has nothing to do in rules that are made to structure datas. If rules were cleared of all that useless stuff, they would be shorter, simplier, and people would focus better on important things. Then why don't you set the following "cosmetic preference": Tools/Options.../Display/Suppress overview text formatting? There is a lot of data in DVD Profiler, and many users (if not most) considers parts of that data unimportant. The problem is that it's not the same data we find important, and if I remember the feature requests we had, formatting of overview is certainly something many people did find important (or at least useful). Here we have the best of both worlds - we can have the data, and those who do not find it important can simply hide it. The only "price" is that you still need to spend a second or two applying the formatting when contributing even if you personally do not have it displayed. So what? | | | Regards Lars | | | Last edited: by lmoelleb |

And BTW surfeur51: I DO like the formatting feature (in fact I like it a lot), whether it's to be considered important or not. |

I DO like headshots and photo galleries, and we have nothing in rules about that. If you read what I wrote, my main concern is to avoid to put in rules things that are not important for the structure of data : rules would be shorter and simplier. If you like bold and italic in overviews, that's fine, the program allows to do what we want (except colors...). As for me, about overview exactly as on cover, I have that in the window just next the overview : the scan of back cover. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

Why do you want to drag in irrelevant information. You won't find headshots exchangeable through the Online for legal reasons, this has been explained numerous times by BOTH Ken and myself. Nor is the headshot Database sanctioned or approved in any way by Invelos, again due to legal issues. Therefore they are not covered under Contribution Rules nor will they ever be. Your example is completely and utterly irrelevant to the overview, whicgh does involve hard data that iis ACTUALLY printed on the backc cover for ALL to see. Nice try to muddy the waters but you blew it. Keep playing though by all means. You do demonstrate things, but they aren't favorable for you and that is sad. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! And therefore you want to be able to write whatever you wish for an overview, then Pete might replace yours with his,, then Tim will replace that one, then you will replace that one and we have to watch you chase your tail. No thank you, surfeur. Not interested in your imaginary data which you want to pretend is real. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here
