I just tried running it against my collection database and it failed.  I'm doing an XML export to see if it will run against that.  Let you know how that goes in a few minutes.

Not working with my XML export file either.

My guess is that it needs to be upgraded to work with this version of DVDP.

Since Goodguy was driven out of the forums by the garbage that reigns here, it's unlikely we'll see this fixed any time soon.

A real shame!

I can't seem to insert the plug-in into the Profiler program. Any idea? I can extract the files fine, but when I click install I get a warning screen.

Which version is it? Should be 2.5 to work with profiler 3.5.1

Thanks, I wasn't aware of this plugin yet. Green arrow for you.

So far I've been using the Name Variants for Cast and Crew plugin and it has really helped me to sort out errors in parsing. Even with my limited collection, I was surprised at the long list of near-identical names that got generated. It's also great that this plugin allows you to directly choose the correct name and apply it throughout your database.

I'll give Find Name Duplicates a try and see which works best.

I also do not need several name fields, one field would solve alot of issues, I never sort or do anything like that with last names in profiler.

cheers

Count me as another one who don't care about the three name fields. I'm from a place who don't use middle name and it's sure too complicated to understand the logic for me. One field for the complete name would make the job easier for me for sure.

I am not sure...since Ken has stated that he wants to keep this feature, I think most of us have just accepted it.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Count me in as another proponent for a single name field. We'd lose the option last name, first name but that's not something that bothers me personally.

Maybe we can change Ken's mind if enough of us ask for it...

One thing that two fields for first name / last name helps with is to find name variants like Joe/Joseph Ranft. Those name variants will be harder to find wih a single name field.

only problem is going from 3 name fields to 2 name fields will not help parsing in the least. If you go from 3 to 2 you still need to know where that middle name belongs... in the first or last name field.

As for me, sorting is very important, and I use it very often. The problem is that stage names and asian names are not correctly sorted, and I asked many times for a tick box which would easily solve this problem.

In fact parsing is not really a problem. Except a few cases which are frequently discussed here, correct parsing is evident (all de, de la, di, von, van... must not be as middle name) or easy to find in internet sites. Recent discussions about Jean Paul Belmondo and Jean Claude Forest showed that parsing questions were only due to stupid rules, not to the difficulty to find the correct name (Jean-Paul, and Jean-Claude in those cases). The big problem is incorrect accentuation, with many Andre, Agnes, Frederic, Francois which should be André, Agnès, Frédéric , François... 90% of my non linking actors (before I correct them), are due to this problem.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm not advocating going from three to two. I'm just stating what positives we get from using more than one field. (Poorly written by me in the first post)
