Ken could theoretically keep the current online, for free and add a paid subscription service with an advanced online for a nominal yearly fee. I believe that was the idea behind DVDPO+ Which is exactly what he was talking about doing... having a free and paid version of the online. So it would actually bring money in. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Yes and I definitely think there's an untapped market there. Collectorz have also already taken that road where people pay a yearly subscription fee to get an online collection. I think Ken is the only one who offers something free, so I'm pretty sure many would be willing to cough up the money to get something more advanced. | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies |

Yeah, I think it would be virtually guaranteed that many users here would pay an extra subscription fee for an online collection upgrade. I know I sure would.. | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | What would this online collection upgrade entail/feature? I mean, what sort of upgrade is needed?
Mind you, unlike some folks who said earlier in the thread they never use theirs, I use mine all the time. I check it for movies I have against stuff that comes in to my shop and looks interesting. I tried using Mobile, but my pocket PC was actually to old to run it. But for what I use the online for, what we have is just fine.
So, what would an upgrade to the online collection be? | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield | | | Last edited: by Danae Cassandra |

| Posted: | | | | Ken never said... one thing I think is desperately needed is to nest the boxsets like the program does (the little plus button to open boxsets).
What I would love to see is something like phpdvdprofiler. I don't have that now... but I am sure someone here with it can post a link. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Okay, that does look quite a bit more awesome. I definitely like the box set nesting that happens.
I could get behind that.
Thanks also, Taro! | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield | | | Last edited: by Danae Cassandra |

| Posted: | | | | How about,
Being able to use it as a true sync/backup. It would be nice to be able to update my collection from any computer/mobile device, without necessarily being at my home computer.
Or the ability to sync through the online, instead or in conjunction with your desktop.
Definitely, the ability to do different or customizable sorts.
Or move toward a thin client/thick server approach, where most of your data would be held online?
If he would go to a thin client approach, then any mobile device becomes easy or even a mac/linux application. Just some ideas...

| Posted: | | | | yeah, phpdvdprofiler is awesome. The only thing I'm missing is an easy way to export my headshots to the online. But for the rest, it has it all: - sortable collection view in every conceivable way - my own high-res custom coverscans - nested boxsets - last viewed/purchased info - ratings, viewdates - possibility to show/hide purchase price mad props to the guys that programmed this in php. They did an awesome job! I would hope Ken someday offers something like that in DVDPO+, with paid subscription and with an even sleeker interface, hopefully with multiple templates. For those that are interested, two good links for phpdvdprofiler: http://dvdaholic.me.uk/forums/[a href="http://www.johnd.com.au/installingphpdvdprofiler/index.htm"http://www.johnd.com.au/installingphpdvdprofiler/index.htm] It takes a little bit of time to set up but once that's done, updating is pretty easy using a combination of XML exports and an FTP program to upload only those covers that have changed. Maybe I am naive, but shouldn't the MacOS code be rather similar to the iOS version, given the underlying Darwin/Unix foundation? |
