If you're not disputing the credited name, and the common name is obvious, the only thing that represents that much work about this is putting the disc in the player to check the credited as name AGAIN versus the original submission.
Doing the actual check on an existing profile does create one other issue for me, and it relates directly to movie collecting versus movie viewing.
While I started out buying or trading for used movies (no problem checking), recent additions to my collection are almost exclusively new.
I have about 450 unopened titles, and I generally don't remove the shrinkwrap unless I have a good reason, such as wanting to watch the movie or to secure a disc I hear banging around inside the case.
That shrink wrap helps protect the title from shelf wear but it also preserves the value of my collection, as new discs are worth more than used copies.
In rare cases, like when a particular version of a film is in short supply on DVD, funny things can happen to the price. I bought "Thin Blue Line" for $5.95 from Oldies.com and then sold it again two years later on Amazon for $55, but opening the package would have cost me $30.
I know this constitutes a "personal problem" and is a sideshow to the main issue, but since we make other exceptions, like pre-release submissions, I wish we could tacitly accept some things without verifying them again.
(Did we require that submitters go back and view movies when submitting indications for color vs B/W?) |

There has been many times... especially on TV Show box set releases... where there was actually a disc missing... or I would have two disc one and no disc two. So now I open them as soon as I get them so I can get the return process started as soon as possible. | | | | Pete |

I'm sure in all these new discs there is one that is cracked or even a bootleg. I will more frequently open the shrink wrapped items as that is the cheap re-sealing method, used by folks that are trying to get something by you sometimes. I have more confidence in the oversealed (folded / welded ends) as that is more likely the original manufacturer's packing. I'm also motivated to remove packaging when the UPC has been over-labeled on the sleeve. I like inputting the original UPC if I can. |
