He unpinned the thread. That, at least for me, was further proof that we are not after a 'common' name. It would be nice, however, to have some confirmation...one way or the other...from Ken or Gerri. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. One could take it to mean that common names ("correct name") are still to be used, but that one only needs to consult the forum at large and not that particular thread. And then again, only if one is "unsure". | | | ...James

But if we aren't after the 'common name', why did he include filters changing 20th Century Fox to Twentieth Century Fox when we submit a contribution? | | | The colour of her eyes, were the colour of insanity | | | Last edited: by reybr |

| Posted: | | | | If there's significant value in a differentiation between studio names, we want to keep that distinction. However, in cases where it's just semantics, standardization via filter works. We do this now with variations of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Warner Bros.
So, if over time a studio has changed it's corporate structure (via acquisition, for instance), we don't want to merge names. But, if the name variations mean the same studio, we can standardize.
Where we go forward with standardization, it will be via filter. I don't want to complicate the rules unnecessarily. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

| Posted: | | | | I can't remember any filter for Warner Bros. / Warner Bros. Pictures? Are you saying that such a filter should be in place? I remember that you asked about it some time ago but I haven't seen such filter implemented yet. I would love to have a filter changing Warner Bros. to Warner Bros. | Posted: | | | | Would it be possible to pin a thread where we document which filters are doing what? For one thing it would cut down on questions as to why submissions are changing. The other reason is I suspect some folks would like to simply cut to the chase when submitting. |

Yeah, actually, that would be very useful. Right now, I don't know which exact filters apply to certain studios, especially those that have changed quite a bit over time. | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies | | | Last edited: by Taro |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting mdnitoil: Quote: Would it be possible to pin a thread where we document which filters are doing what? Hear, hear. I just recently noticed an automatic change to one of my submission that threw me for a loop. Made me cancel the submission and double-check my local. When the change wasn't present in my local I resubmitted it and the change took place again, so I noted in my notes that it was probably a submission filter at work and then others confirmed for me that that was indeed the case. Would be nice to either be notified upon submission what has been changed automatically and for what reason, or have a thread that described all filters. Would've cut down on my confusion.
