I think it would be handy to have an official list of Actors and Birth Years in the Invelos DB.

It would certainly help, but I don't know if it is possible to extract such info from the database.

Is anybody still managing the project?  If not, I'll pick it up.  I'm currently going through and cleaning up the current headshot database and removing all the nudes.

Question - what's the best way to determine if a BY shouldn't be in there in the case where there's only one actor listed (unlike, for example, Harrison Ford)?

Okay, looks like nobody is in charge any more.  I should have a cleaned up headshot database available tonight.  There wasn't any nude males (sorry gals) but I defined nude women as showing nipple.  Racy headshots were left alone.

However, importing a cast database with a headshot cleared does not clear the headshot in your database.  So I replaced them with the "!" invelos shield graphic that you see when you try to evaluate a profile with a cover attached.  This should also draw attention to them so they can get replaced with a valid shot.

All birth years that do not exist in Invelo's database will be removed.

I removed duplicate cast members I found where one had the name defined as First/Middle/Last and the dupe had FirstMiddle/Last.

Cleaning up your database - Removing invalid Birth Years

You do not need to perform these steps if you have not imported any of the previous Headshot databases.

1. Back up your existing database before you do anything!

2. Refresh your profiles.  This will remove actors with invalid birth years on your existing profiles.  Click the "All" tab and press CTRL-A to flag all profiles.  Click Collection > Flagged > Refresh.  At the pop-up window, check "Refresh Profiles" and "To proceed...", then click the OK button.  Manual profiles, depending on how you created them, may say "Unable to download file" - click the continue button.  If you get an error saying that the file couldn't be downloaded, no worries, click the OK button to continue.

** IMPORTANT NOTE ** Refreshing your profiles will remove any custom editing!  Note that the personal tab is untouched (such as last watched, tags, etc).

3. Now back up your database to a new backup file, for example "C:\cleanup.dpb", but do NOT back up the cast & crew database.

4. Now comes the fun part - we delete everything.
4a. Click File > Open Database.
4b. If you don't care what the file database is called or located, create a new database and double-click it to select it.  If you do care, create a new database, double-click the new database to select it, click File > Open Database again, delete your old database, recreate your old (new) database in the previous location (aka "Default"), and double-click it to select it. (There may be a long pause after the database is deleted if you have a large collection.)

5. Restore your cleanup backup database (ie: C:\cleanup.dpb)

You now have a purified database and are ready to import the new Headshot database which has been cleaned up to remove all invalid Birth Years - BY's that exist in Invelos DB were left alone.

My next post will have information on the Headshot database itself.

Headshot Database v3

If you plan on contributing to the project, please select "Replace existing" at the Profile Restore Database dialog box when loading the headshot database.  This will make processing any updates you send me SO much easier.  I can't tell you how many movies I could have watched instead of getting the headshot database cleaned up.

If everyone who plans on contributing to the project uses this database as your baseline, we can all stay on the same page.

Please Note: If you plan on adding nude headshots or adding unconfirmed Birth Years to cast/crew, please do not contribute any headshot updates.  It takes a couple hours of rather boring and tedious effort to verify every BY and then removing the invalid ones before a database update is released.

Download Headshots_v3.zip 193 MB (Verizon treats dpb files as text so it's zipped)

During the cleanup process, most duplicate entries have been removed.  Different cast with the same name and valid BY's but the same picture on both have been corrected.  Adult photos have been replaced with a shield image to make sure they don't get slipped back in as nudes if someone submits a headshot database without cleaning up or importing v3 after importing an older one.

Maybe a new thread in this forum should be opened, to reflect the actual release number... ?

Your 2. Refresh your profiles - this won't remove invalid birth years. When a profile is downloaded with no birth year and the existing entry in your database does have one - then the change is ignored.

And even worse, every entry for that actor which is downloaded where there is no BY will immediately get the BY added.

I would recommend that people clean their databases of all BY manually before applying your headshot collection.

And good job BTW.

Gah.  I thought I verified that.

Okay, I'll create a list of BY's I removed from the headshot database.

I wonder if someone can create a BY removal plugin???  Then a refresh will do the intended job.

I'm sorry but do you really think this is going to happen? This would mean that in fact every improved headshot I collected since the last time I send them in would be gone?!

All the "clean up your database" talk is pretty useless too imho. Why? Because you said you deleted duplicates and so on. You're ignoring the fact though that not everything you think is a duplicate is a duplicate for someone else. You probably have "Chow Yun Fat" in your database but someone else might have gone with "Yun-Fat Chow" (xradman's approach). Now, you'll get that one send in too. Plus all the local duplicates you painfully deleted but not the guy sending in an update.

I think what Jan meant from this is that we have all carefully been downloading updates to the last lot of headshots - and when we import this list then we will (or at least I will) check each headshot and keep the best.

If I replace existing automatically then I would lose all my good headshots.

(and I can't contribute since I try and go for the topless where possible.

But (again) your hard work is appreciated.

See, you say something like that, and I can't help but wonder what pictures you found for Alfred Hitchcock or Martin Landau...
