It's a time consuming process, that's for sure.  I have guidelines for what I consider a proper headshot in the 2nd post of this topic but it's not exactly cut-n-dry.  It typically takes a second to process each headshot, sometimes more, because I have to evaluate each comparison to see which photo makes for a better headshot.

To give you an example, if it's not clear-cut, I check the image quality and image sizes.  If the existing really sucks and the new one doesn't, I'll accept it even if it's not an ideal headshot.  Then I compare the ages of the person in the photos - the older one wins in most cases and I typically have to do facial analysis (slow) to see if it's really the same person.  Then there's how clear the person is against the background - if you can't make out their hair in the better quality photo but you can in the lesser quality photo, I'll take the lesser quality photo if it's not that far behind in quality.  Sometimes a new headshot is the same photo with less cropping but if there's not enough cropping (too much body shown) and the head size is the same size when viewing the actual size, I'll keep the existing.

Then there's the need to check to see if there's a BY attached to the profile if the photos are of different people before I click "Keep" because if there's a BY, I have to accept it.

First, my sincere thanks to the Dr. for all his efforts with this database. You have done a fantastic amount of work and it is appreciated. When I did the update to V3, I was amazed by all the topless shots that were on my computer... I am no prude, I did find it amusing though. (I hate to have anything on my computer I don't know about.)

I took the moral high ground and bade them all a fond farewell.

Thanks again for all your effort!

I'll 2nd the thanks. This is a really good job and not an easy one!

I wish I could easily share my database - but I have tended on concentrating on keeping the topless or even more risque shots.

And all these unwanted BYs (i.e. ones which should not be in the database).

I will have to just set some time aside to get rid of the Bys. But I obviously don't want to get rid of my 'premier' shots..    So I don't know what I can do about them..

Despite all the warnings I'm sure someone would download my database and then complain about nudes being present.. duh..

I get that one for sure... and the pictures are so small too! Some people just freak out too easily - after a weekend at the beach in Nice they might get over it!

You don't seem to get the point.  For my part, I'm not offended by the nudes (and I have been to Nice).  But I don't think these pictures are appropriate in this particular process.  What whe're expecting are head shots, not breast and ass shots.  If these nude shots tease you, you'd better be watching those movies...

And for the thanks, yes he deserves those for his efforts, but you seem to forget all the people who really took the time to grab these shots, one by one, searching all over the web for the best picture, spending a few HUNDRED hours for your sake.  There are 10 to 15 people who took part of this process since the beginning.  You are presently thanking only the guy who decided to take the time to compare them for you.

Just for the sake of clarity... I do get the point and I love nudes (well female ones). I agree they really don't work for me in this process because I want head shots so I can identify the person. The boobs still distract me at 54, just can't seem to remember why dammit!

I simply intended to say thanks for someone making an extraordinary effort. Again, because I am old and wise, I understand what you mean and sincerely grateful for the efforts of everyone involved in this project. It is appreciated by me for sure and I assume many other people. Perhaps you can understand my intent was simply to demonstrate that appreciation and not upset anyone (maybe I'm not quite as wise as old eh?)

All that said, this is a great feature! My thanks and appreciation goes out to all of you who took the time to make it better. If I upset you Sebastien, I am sorry for that.

regards,

John (roop)

I do thank those who contribute headshot databases but keep in mind that I do more than just compare the photos, I'm also a contributor.

Lately, every profile I add, I go through a few steps.  One of those is to go through and look for headshots for the cast and sometimes crew.

Oh yes, the v3 database shouldn't have any nudes and I review all of the headshots before putting out a new version looking for any nudes that slipped in as new headshots.  Doesn't mean I catch them all though...

I also remove any invalid BY's from the headshot db.

As one of those who did contribute pictures at the beginning (I think to the main database - not just to others to download) - you can thank me if you want..

But I don't spend hours just looking for headshots - I look at new films I buy and try and find a few people who are new - and also to get better pictures for those I already have.. So it wasn't that much of a chore..

So I shall thank the good doctor for his work since I know what a pain it is having to do compares.

IF I can get rid of the unwanted BY's then I'll see if I can contribute a more 'free spirited' version.

And I can confirm I don't have any pictures of donkeys or other animals. And it could be argued that a porn star should be topless..

I'm in the same boat, except for me it's BYs and not headshots. I just crossed the 500th birthyear milestone. Only 8,400 to go!

One thing I thought of if you want to keep track of headshots you've added is to create a manual profile and assign the cast/crew to it when you changed their headshot.

As the headshot database grows in size (currently 304 MB, up 12 MB from v3), it also poses a problem for those trying to contribute their headshot contributions.  Creating a manual profile and assigning those new & updated headshots to it will allow you create a copy of your database with just that profile and remove any cast & crew not assigned to it.  That will make your contributed database MUCH smaller and able to be simply emailed.

OK, you got a greenie! Your point about porn stars is well taken (for the women anyway)

I'm deeply sorry if I looked rude, I was really tired and I wasn't in a good mood when I wrote this yesterday night.  I should have gone to bed earlier.
