| Posted: | | | | We'll likely never agree on a definition for age appropriateness and like many have posted, we likely shouldn't try - that subject is best handled locally. The proposal at hand adds a high alternate for the current lowest rating (NR). It also sets a framework that allows much of the online to fall into place between them and importantly answers the original issue - how to logically handle DVDs with multiple ratings. We can now say "highest rating wins" and have it match the program's definition.
With this rating in place, it also gives the power to users locally who want to assign it as they see fit, for instance to direct-to-video horror films, if they choose.
I'll consider a feature to locally merge NR and unrated if there's a significant desire for that. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

The blocked quote would never be used, at least by me I agree, Hal. But if it's a local issue then I see no problem with it. I would just continue to follow the data. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Doomsday: Unrated actually has the 'R' rating on the back...because it includes the Original Theatrical Version. How would this be entered under this system? Pitch Black: Unrated Director's Cut has 'Not Rated' on the back. How would that be entered? It really doesn't matter for my local as I will be entering 'Not Rated' as NR and 'Unrated' as Unrated, but I want to be sure for contribution purposes. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. As I understand it, both would be entered in DVDP as "Unrated" (the highest rating). And then all old movies and TV stuff would then be Rated as strongly as any rated R flick. |

| Posted: | | | | And I too have made suggestions... You and maybe 4 others think that NR has always been the highest rating, to me and many others it has always been the lowest rating... I have stated in one of the threads that I don't use Parental Control settings myself but see a need for it. Keep in mind that maybe 60 or so people spend any time here in the forums or vote, or contribute. Out of what 600,000 people who have payed for this program.. I bet there is a lot of parents out there who would love to see this work... Making both NR and Unrated the same and = to or higher than R will make sorting for G rated NR films imposable. |

| Posted: | | | | Fine, Rom using my example go right aheda and show Deep Throat to your kids, after all under my hypothetical it would receive Not Rated...the LOWEST rating of all and therefore must be acceptable viewing fare for your children...RIGHT. How stupid can we possibly be to not comprehend this simple issue. There are ways to do what you want Rom, not in the short run, although even there it is POSSIBLE to do, highly possible. But I will guarantee if you really thik that Deep Throat ios acceptable for your kids to watch, I definitely what any age settings by you to be purely kept locally, because you aren't qualified to determine age ratings for MY family. However, if I'm not mistaken, even if it has "Not Rated" on the back, if it has "Unrated" on the front, then it will be entered in DVDP as "Unrated". That's one of the things I have a problem with! | | | Hal |

I understand it the same way Hal does... since Unrated would be above R rating... And Ken has it as highest rating wins.... then both would get Unrated for contribution purposes... since Unrated is on both cases. | | | Pete |
