If it wasn't all so serious, it is funny  To our dear Sith Lord: our madmartian has a point: a home PC is a qualification of a PC's looks and usability and targeted buyers. So, unfortunately for the advertisement, it says nothing about 'household', which is where the thread got heated up. Also, nobody disputes copyright and enforce consequences like buying a legal copy. The question is, is it legal for copyright holders to restrict the REsale of their product, especially when for all intent and purposes NOBODY here is talking about pirating by using a licence key twice. Now a copyright holder can STATE such a prohibition in a EULA or even somewhere else, but it doesn't mean it is legally so. Now I think we can also agree that it was Microsofts intention that such a family pack is intended for a single household. The point for debate is, did MS advertise that correctly and did MS use the correct legal framework and last but not least, is it all mute because it is practically unenforcible? What comes through, in this debate, that on none of this issues is, without caveats, a full 100% yes answer. And if not, it may, even in the USA, be perfectly legal to resell. | | | Eric

Of course, nowadays, more and more people seem to be taking an anti-consumer stance and supporting the companies that also take such a stance. I will never understand that. Yesterday I got an upgrade offer to MS Office Professional Plus 2013 HUP for 12,95 €. I could not resist to purchase it, but I will not install this in the near future because I will possibly replace my current PC in the next months. Due to the fact that it is not possible to purchase more than one licence for Office HUP (but it's allowed to install MSO2013 on 2 machines) and possibly not transferrable to another pc, I will currently not replace my existing Office 2010 installation. | | | | Thorsten |

| | Posted: | | | | News in a number of bulletin boards is popping up that MS is taking notice of the reactions it has provoked. It says you can reinstall Office 2013 if you had to alter your PC's configuration, for instance when your hard disk crashed and had to install a new disk. You'll have to contact the service desk to get it done.
However, the licence REMAINS tied to the processor and the motherboard, so any replacement of that will still require a new Office 2013 copy.
Me thinks the whole thing is still just a scam to get people to the subscription based Office 365. | | | Eric
