If it is a bootleg... then no it does not belong in the main database at all. All the info should be kept locally only.

I don't believe for a minute that it's a bootleg or I wouldn't have listed it. None of my other bootlegs have UPC/EAN numbers - and unlike the bootleg CDs & BDs that I do own, not only does this have an EAN number, but the back cover lists several actual companies which can be searched on Google - along with addresses and phone numbers.

It is currently sold, with both this and a newer cover, on Amazon. As they wouldn't "knowingly" sell a bootleg, I think proof would be in order before anyone "convicts" this of being illegal. Keep in mind that this is an import and many things are legal in other parts of the world which aren't legal here. European countries (see Italy for one example) have far different copyright laws and, as we honor them in our trade agreements, they are quite legal to sell in this country as imports (this DVD is sold as a Portuguese import by Amazon and several marketplace sellers). Amazon also lists and sells other versions of this movie (I believe all are Portuguese at present) and it's been listed now for about a decade. This is NOT some behind the counter, record store item. I'm quite certain that Sony would've intervened by now if anything illegal were being done and Amazon wouldn't either list it via its marketplace or sell it through its own fulfillment centers. Please substantiate charges before you make them by doing a little research - as I did before I listed this.

Thanks for the info about layouts, guys. I knew alternates existed but figured I'd get into that after my collection was completed - before, that is, I lost a part of it.    Anyway, you were right LJG, Overview had somehow become unchecked and after further attempts, I managed to get it back and placed at the top (but it's so-o-o black and the rest of my page is so blue - eh, to be looked into later  ). I did save this layout and will look into others as time allows, although I wish the little picture of them could be clicked on and seen much larger. As always, thanks for the help.

Take my word for it (or not), it is an unofficial, unauthorized DVD. This is common knowledge among long time Dylan collectors....check Searching for a Gem, for example. Amazon sells tons of bootleg/pirate unauthorized and "grey area" CDs/DVDs.
Only Sony has the right to release Dylan music officially. Is your DVD a Sony release....does it state "licensed from Sony" or some such? No.
But, believe as you like.

Even the customer reviews at Amazon state it is an unoffial/bootleg release...

This Brazilian import is a retitled but direct copy of the out-of-print Bob Dylan video "Hard To Handle," a document of his 1986 Australian tour backed by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Unfortunately there is very little Bob on official DVD, so the less than stellar video and audio on this release is very disappointing. Hopefully a better version will be released by Sony/Columbia. In the meantime if you have the VHS version it's better than this. If you don't have the VHS, than you should get this at least for the performance.

another

another bootleg dvd, all this material is being traded among fans for free and often in better quality.

I am not saying this is or is not a bootleg or what have you... but don't let the fact that there is a UPC number on the cover fool you. I have seen many bootlegs with UPC codes and actual company names on the cover. That alone don't mean a thing.

I agree with Pete.

A couple of weeks after its release I bought a blu-ray of Les Miserables from Amazon (UK) and what arrived was a definite bootleg. But it was a very professional looking one. Needless to say it was returned to Amazon and I reported the seller.

You're kidding, right?

FYI, Portuguese is the language of Brazil.

You can only be kidding.

Look, don't take my word for it. Don't believe the countless customer reviews on Amazon (you can't believe everything you read).
Why not try getting it straight from the horses mouth, so to speak. Contact Sony and inquire if Your DVD is official...if it has been authorized/licensed by them.

Addicted2DVD : Absolutely, pardner, I love it. I might break it trying to install it, but I love it!

scotthm : Yes, sir! Mostly Beatles stuff : 30-or-so CDs (some of which have finally been released). A couple of Dylan things - but fortunately, except for video, he came to his senses and released tons of stuff, especially the fantastic Live '66 with The Band. I listened to that on boot for 20-30 years, but Bob's official, computer-corrected release beat the boot like a bad drum! I do have 6 Beatle boot BDs that I wouldn't give up for money or gold - just about every minute of which should've been released (BUT THAT I WON'T EVER UPLOAD HERE BECAUSE THE SITE DOESN'T WANT ME TO AND THAT'S THEIR RIGHT). Every day fans who made the Fabs rich die wanting to see and hear this stuff. See my comments below pertaining to the immorality of creative suppression. Anyway, like Paul sang:

Well, when I met you at the station
You were standing with a bootleg in your hand
I took you back to my little place
For a taste of a multicoloured band
We're gonna get Hi Hi Hi, the night is young
She'll be my funky little mama, gonna rock it and we've only just begun

JMGuer : For a guy who "Don't konow or care....no horse in this race", you sure have jumped all over this. What is that now … 5-6 posts? All the while ignoring my careful explanation of the law, or, if you prefer, the legal loophole which leaves a gray area which makes these … I don't know, what's the word … oh yeah, LEGAL! Tell ya what, instead of this cause celeb BS, why don't you call Sony up and tell them all about it - I'm sure they and their army of lawyers have never heard about this DVD; and then you can call Amazon and get them to root out this den of thieves - but, oh, it would have to be illegal.

See, if Sony did re-release this here (and, uh, HBO would have a say as well, counselor), they might have a leg to stand on because they'd be enforcing their rights by acting on them. One of the chief reasons that so many of the early boots came out of Luxembourg and Italy and other bastions of freedom of expression was because the laws in those countries came closer to my beliefs than our laws do - specifically, concerning the premise that if you don't use it, you lose it. In other words, copyright could and should be used to protect economic rights, but not to suppress artistic product which existed in the public domain - and which people wanted. It's also one of the reasons that many places in the world don't extend copyright protection for as long as we do here - with the result that more things stay in print overseas. Maybe you should go chase an ambulance along with those idiot posters on Amazon. Do you really believe that no-one has ever brought this to Amazon's attention?

Oh, and by the way, they speak Portuguese in Portugal. Perhaps you've heard of it? It's a little European country which borders Spain? Officially, and legally, it's called the Portuguese Republic - and their official language is the Portuguese Language. Like I said, call the cops. This crime must be at least as big as … oh say, the Lindbergh kidnapping? I'm sure they'll get right on it - and maybe Sony will throw in some officially legal Bob Dylan CDs for ya.
