I would like to comment on the rule in which slip covers must be the actual images.

They often contain marketing jargon and additional text which detracts from a good "image" of the actual cover.

Example being, tonight I got nailed by this and I did not even catch it in the rules before submitting (My apologies) but I posted high-res scans of the Jurassic Park Trilogy inside box art. It is 99.9% the same as the slip cover except did not include the "Open here" and "Digital Copy" text.

To me, that made for a BETTER image to represent the image because A) nobody could possibly "open up" an image and the latter the "digital copy" is drm infested and cannot be shared with friends ever, and it expires. The Movies do not expire, but marketing stunts do.

I am confused as to why the rules situate inferior covers with marketing on them instead of higher quality basic representations of the actual movie cover as sold. Can someone provide some clarity for me?

There are several points:
- a lot of people want the visible cover
- later issues may not contain such "clean art" sheet
- the strict rule avoids any further need for discussion when an alternative could/should/would be used

I personally am no fan of rating logos, so I avoid them locally where ever I can, even by photoshopping them out sometimes, but I'm fully aware that those covers aren't contributable.

Best way to proceed: scan the slip box and contribute it, scan the clean-art and lock it. And if you feel the need to share it, see "Alternative Cover" in my signature.

And I would like to see something added in cases where a custom case is held in a box. Such as the Star Trek Enterprise case from Target that came unassembled inside a box. Or the Toy Story 3 Target exclusive Buzz Lightyear figure that came in a big plastic box.

Perhaps for Custom case types we could have a checkbox for Box or whatever outer case type that the actual movie case is held inside of.

Right now I think custom doesn't really cover the actual outer case, just the case type that the discs are held in.

Seems like some contributions refer to a paper sleeve as a slip cover. I'm referring to the temporary glued on paper sleeves that comes with steelbooks and sometimes digibooks. Or would you call that a slip cover?

That one is from The Hobbit digibook with the 64 page booklet. Once the wrapping is removed this comes loose. This is the only place the UPC is found and The Blu-Ray+DVD+Ultraviolet discription on the smaller front tab. More of a J-Cover.

Sorry, I meant I haven't seen someone try to submit it as a slipcover before!  I have a lot of Steelbooks and Digibooks and have them packed away.  The question is wether to use it as the back image.  That seems to be the case and how I submit them, but I can see why others would like to see the artwork.

That was approved as a slip cover for the DVD I just bought. Was already approved by the time I added it to my collection.
