Going by what Ken said about a few months back... both the amount of contributions as well as the quality of the contributions are at an all time high.

Edit to provide quote...

Quoting Ken Cole:

...I do not, however, share the sentiment of doom & gloom that some have indicated.  The facts are that our total number of contributions per week continues to rise.  Also, the quality of said contributions is higher than at any point in DVD Profiler's history, measured by any objective standard....

EDIT: Reading this over again... I don't know if Ken wanted it this way when he made this post... but this would also not include burnt in subtitles... as all he mentions is selectable subtitles... if not exclude them

No, since burned in subtitles are already selected and can't be deselected, they are not excluded by Ken's statement.

Sorry, but what if I was one of the 499,850 members that don't use the forums. I'm following the rules. I don't have time to search forums on every single technicality.

But you aren't.  You do use the forums and you don't have to search them as the post handed to you on a silver platter.

I'll continue doing as I stated because I am following the contribution rules. If Ken makes a statement in the forums he should take the 30 seconds to update the rules.

That is certainly your choice, the wrong one in my opinion, but your's none the less...and yea, I will vote 'no' every time.

But how do I know it's not going to happen with every other section? If Ken wants the rules followed, he should update the rules. Again, there is supposedly 500,000 users. Look how many actually use the forums. It's beyond ridiculous to expect people to know he posted it in the forum.

I don't believe he expects that at all... no... it is more like he expects those of us that knows to point contributors to the clarifications until he sees fit to change the rules.

Sure this isn't the way I would want to do it. But it is all we have at the moment.

No we don't have a right to expect decent customer service. It's not like we paid for it or anything.

Let's all wallow and just accept it.

As long as people keep sticking up for poor decisions, the more Ken will not bother with the necessary improvements. If you want to see a change for the good, then you have to say so, instead of just letting it go by the wayside because 'it is what it is'.

Here is the way I look at it...and the way I am sure most long time users look at it...I paid less than $30 for this software, more than 10 years ago.  In that time I have gotten quite a few program updates...2 in the last 2 years...more profile updates than I can count and a forum to discuss my hobby.  From where I sit, I have uses more that $30 in bandwidth alone.  Anything beyond that, including the program, is pure gravy.

Now, if you want to bang your head against the brick wall that is Ken's lack of customer service skills, be my guest, but you won't get many people to join you.  As I said in a different post, Albert Einstein once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”  We have all been there and done that.  Nothing has changed and, until Ken decides to hire someone to deal with Customer Service issues...or finds a willing volunteer...nothing ever will.  You either learn to live with it or you drive yourself crazy...or the rest of us...by constantly carping about it.

And I will. Every. Single. Day.

(I would gladly pay a monthly fee for the program if Ken would actually do some rule/forum work)

You don't and he should.  Problem is, he won't.  You can either accept that or, as I just said, drive yourself crazy trying to change it.

As would we all...but, again, I don't see it happening.  I even went so far as to volunteer to help him with his forum work, I believe quite a few of us did...but, it is what it is.

You may try, but you won't.  Fortunately, while it can take time, Ken does listen to the forum members.  All your constant carping will get you is ignored.

That is pretty disgusting, IMO, if that's true. And a craptacular way to run a company by ignoring your customer.

Then at the very least create a new forum that only a handful of community members has write access to, and create a new post that links to the original discussion thread, and a copypaste of the conclusion every time Ken weighs in on an interpretation of the rules. The rules should then include a link to this forum, explaining that this is where the amendments are.

Every time the rules document is updated, this forum can be purged. If a clarification from the forum didn't make it into the new rules, it must not have been important enough to keep.

An alternative could be to get Ken to include a tag, like "*** UPDATEDRULE ***" when he makes a decision. That way it would be possible to use the search function to find all new rules (as long as the search doesn't time out, that is).

Demanding that every contributor and voter follow secret rules that are hidden in forums they may not even have access to, is simply insane.

Ken does not demand that we "follow secret rules that are hidden in forums", users that post in these forums demand it!

Ah. I didn't mean to suggest that Ken was insane
