This is the only movie that came close to traumatising me back when I first saw it twelve years ago.
Its so heart breaking to watch what Walken's character goes through.

The Back to the Future trilogy on blu.

I love those films, and even though I have seen them several times it still puts a smile on my face when Marty comes back to the mall at the end of the first film, and what before was "Twin Pines Mall" is now "Lone Pine Mall" since Marty ran down one of the farmer's pines back in 1955.

My partner bought this on impulse 'cos he likes J R-M, but I went into it with very low expectations.

However, we both loved it and found it very creepy.

Burke And Hare (2010)

John Landis returns to the directors chair for the first time in 12 years and boy does it shows. The man who made An American Werewolf In London, without doubt one of my favourite films ever made. A perfect blend of shock, gore and physiological thrills coupled with fantastic acting and of course direction.

It's a masterpiece that gives the horror genre the respect it deserves. A reminder to those who are part of the endemic miss use and perversion of American horror under the pretence of nostalgia and independent. That bringing nothing to it but shame with bad acting, bad direction, bad writing and superficial soft porn.

That not any idiot can make a horror film and it does require talent to do it justice and do it right.

With that said now on to the film it self. Burke And Hare as a black comedy had a lot of potential but instead what we have is a very rushed film. At it's core Burke and Hare just has no character development.

Perhaps if William Burke had been portrayed more as a victim pushed by Hare to do the murders to make the money to fund Ginny's play to win her heart would have worked better. In a more serious context along with the comedy.

Serkis has all the talents and looks to pull off a convincing villain with ease and Pegg has all the looks talents to play a convincing victim with ease.

Knowing your actors is key to making a story.

Similar to how in 10 Rillington Place as Timothy played by John Hurt was given huge emphasis on as the victim which for me was one of the finest acting performances given by an actor ever.

And this would have made the ending feel so much more fitting as we see William Burke about to be hanged to the sound Amazing Grace being played  bagpipes.

Which i did find rather emotional.

From here on in i could bitch somewhat about the accents but this is a universal thing in all films of this type accents usually do suck. So i won't let that reflect on my judgements.

So in conclusion then Burke And Hare is a film with a couple of laughs rushed along filtering in a few cameos along the way. It had potential but failed so expect this to be coming to a bargain bin near you soon. Don't bother going out your way to see this in theatres.
