I withdrew my "Batman Begins" contribution yesterday after getting 3 No votes in 3 minutes.

My contribution consisted of correcting actor name T/J/Ramini to TJ//Ramini, and my contribution notes were as follows:

Quote:
Source - Actual movie credits:
Correcting name of TJ Ramini so that TJ is in First name field - there is no space between the "T" and the "J", and no dots between the two letters either. Verified from movie credits. Also see here: www.tjramini.com/biography.html

I provided the link to his official website to show that he seems to prefer going by the name TJ Ramini (no dots or spaces between initials), just like he is credited in Batman Begins.

However, I got 3 No votes, saying:

Quote:
quote from mentioned site: "TJ (first name Tarek, middle name Jafar, " which indicates that T is for first and J is middle and should be so parsed.

and

Quote:
TJ is abbreviation of first and middle names

Now he is credited in DVD Profiler as T/J/Ramini, as opposed to how he is actually credited in the "Batman Begins" credits. If you split up initials which are not separated by a space or a dot like this, then it will be impossible to distinguish between his being credited as TJ Ramini or as T J Ramini. Therefore I think these no votes were incorrect. I did however withdraw my contribution, so that I could check here in the forums.

(This particular actor is credited at least in 2 different ways in DVDs I own (TJ Ramini and Tarek Ramini), so it would also be nice to find a common name for him. Based on his official website it would seem he prefers to be credited as TJ Ramini, so this would be a candidate for common name, only I need to know how to parse it first.)

Who's to say that TJ (no spaces, no periods) can't be a FIRSTNAME?
Another Ken (not Ken Cole)

He is credited as Tarek Ramini, not TJ Ramini. You really should check the actual credits instead of the IMDb.

Other than that I think we should always use dots between initials.

Mary-Jane to M.J.//
Mary Jane to M./J./
TJ should then become T./J./

Excuse me? I don't appreciate what you are implying - I DID check the actual credits for "Batman Begins", and he IS credited as TJ Ramini - not Tarek Ramini.

Ehhh, yeah you're right. I need to recheck the credits, I thought my profile was correct.

Agreed ... I know the 'core name' (or whatever it's called) still isn't pinned down but I think the general consensus is that any 'core names' with initials will use '.' dividers which means if that's not how they're actually credited use 'credited as'... that's what it's for

TJ seems to be a nickname, or in this case artist name, at least thats how i see it. I would add it all to firstname.

Thats not always the case. My mother has a dual first name, but it doesnt have a - between them, their still both part of the firstname. I would believe Mary Jane could also be a firstname.

the only problem with all this is is that your documentation belies your change. it is clear from his website that regardless of the typographical configuration TJ are the initials for his first and middle name and should be parsed that way.

Why not just add him as T./J./Ramini and use the credited as for TJ Ramini?

Given no offical word has come down on how to properly handle common names you might want to wait.  It may turn out that his common name could end up being "Tarek Ramini" considering the number of times he has been credited with this name.  If that is the case then you don't have to worry about adding periods after T and J, just common name "Tarek Ramini" credited as "TJ Ramini".

I'm not saying this is how it should be contributed.

Yeah, I decided to wait, and just contributed him (in another profile I was doing) as he was credited in that movie (Tarek Ramini), without choosing a common name. I left the Batman Begins profile alone, even though it now looks like he is credited as T J Ramini and not TJ Ramini.

Yep, because uncredited is something different than credited in my book. And while I have multiple versions/profiles of Army of Darkness, which you are referring to, with the uncredited actrice Courtney Pakiz I just thought it would be nice to add her to the ones without. But hey if you (and others) don't like this so be it, I will keep it local.

No doubt you're correct about Mr. Ramini, Stuart.  But my question had more to do with generalizations.  Suppose he actually went by TJ?  Why couldn't the combination of these two letters stand for FIRSTNAME?
