Hi,

Can someone tell me why a  B&W movie is not listed as such in DVD Profiler?  For example:  All About Eve is a B&W movie but no where in Invelos Software DVD Profiler does it list it as being a B&W DVD.  The same applies to movies in color.  Does anyone know why?

I know that the feature request for this has been made many times. Only the programmer knows "why". You can use the tag function though to track these on your own.

In those cases where both a B&W and a Color version exist, it would appear to a good use for the Edition field, to indicate the distinction.

That's pretty easily handled. Just make it against the rules to profile the colorized ones at all.

Couldn't resist.

It seems you all are missing the point.  I ask why DVD Profiler does not supply this information in its general info section' or featured section, etc.  I know I can edit my collection list to put it in each B&W DVD that I have, but I want to know why DVD Profiler failed to add this info in their description of the DVDs.

And you got your answer in the first response you got:

I understand what you are saying; however, as I stated earlier:

Then you'd be missing out on some good ones.  For instance, the rarely seen 1935 edition of 'She' was intended to be filmed in color, but they didn't have the money in the budget, so it was done in B&W.  Legend Films has released a new version of that with colorized done by none other than Ray Harryhausen, and it is superb!  The B&W edition is on the same disc as well, and after watching both, I honestly prefer the colorized one -- and I'm one of those who hates colorizing, especially the butcher job Ted Turner did on so many classics!

That is a great idea.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Well, as Ray Harryhausen explains it in an interview, Legend Films is using a new fully digital technique that wasn't even in existence when Turner did all his butcher jobs, plus they are basing the colors and look on documentary information from the makers of the original film.  Plus they are only doing films that were originally supposed to be done in color but for one reason or another ended up in B&W.  If they do as well on others as they did on 'She' I think it will be a gain for movie fans, not a loss.  They are also not destroying the original B&W prints the way Turner did so often.
