Hi,

I "invented" Box Sets for my TV shows to shorten my DVD list (don't you worry, these are manual DVD's and I won't contribute any of them). For example, I packed all my 9 season of Stargate under the virtual Box Set "Stargate SG-1".

But I can't decide to which purchase date I should give it. Giving none is not an option, because phpDVDProfiler then sorts them under "January 01, 1970".

Now I have to decide whether I take the date of the first item or the last one I purchased.

What would you do, and why?

Given the reason you mentioned for not giving none, I'd say: None

have phpdvdprofiler ignore anything older than, let's say 1990 and be done with it...

I believe it's "$monthspecialcondition". You could set it to:
$monthspecialcondition = "AND purchasedate > ".my_mktime(0,0,0,1,1,1990);

first date purchased - for the same reason we use the date of the oldest material in a box set to determine production year...

Tough call:
On the one hand, I would go for the earliest release date (similiar to the rule for production year).
On the other hand, this so called virtual boxset could have only been released as soon as the last season set was released.

First makes sense.
Or, just use the date you made the "virtual box", or maybe a significant date from the show (if any).
Last opition is just make up something that sounds cool, or an average in between the first and last real box being released.

I've decided to use the date of the last item I bought. The reason for this is, when somebody looks what I bought recently, he'll see it.

It also means, I have to change it every time I add a new item.

I added a manual DVD called (e.g.) "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and in the profile I added all 7 season boxes to it.

What about Production Year?
I guess it should be that of the first item.

I do not fill the profile with valid information, I simply use it as a clamp for all items of a TV show.

I think it's useless to have 7 or 10 list entries which only differ in the season number. Either someone is interested in this then he/she will "open the box set" or he/she is not then it is faster to scroll over if you have only one instead of ten entries.

For this, I usually add seasons 2+ as childs to the Season 1 profile. That way I don't have to bloat the database with phantom parents.

You can't sort your entire collection by production year, though.

Agreed. Still I wonder which way is best for grouping together all the DVDs of a TV series. Yours or RossRoy's...
Maybe we need a new feature: "Add virtual box set / collection".
